gotnitro? Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Well I thought I had started a post about this before , but search didnt yield anything. The squirrels started waking up after winter and running amuck lately. They dared me to build an oil field truck. I had traded sam I am awhile ago for a KW Alaskan hauler build..and that's where this started .This will be a Winch truck The proposed list..huge power..12v71 T , huge tires since I wanted a 6x6 , winches to drag equipment onto the steel bed , an enormous pusher bumper , ..and piles of tool bins. The truck from Sam was already stretched perfectly for the winch bed HD tires from KFS will keep this truck moving thru the job site Rubber block suspension from plaskit I stuck a set of Rockwell axles from the autocar dump truck under it...and hung the tires more to come !
gotnitro? Posted April 9, 2020 Author Posted April 9, 2020 Those enormous tires aren't gonna turn themselves...a 12v71T dropped right in Playing around w fuel tank ideas. KW round tanks , a married pair of squarish tanks from paystar..or something custom..havent decided yet oh dont worry I havent lost my mind...those chevy monza mufflers are coming off...you gotta hear that buzzin dozen !!! That's it for now..I'm fabricating the " pit " fenders common on the C500.
DrKerry Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!! This is gonna get exciting now boys!!!!!!!!! Lol ?
gotnitro? Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 8 hours ago, Sam I Am said: 'bout time...? Thanks Sam ! I tend to get distracted but during our forced stay home, I've been knocking em out ! 2 hours ago, am73grand said: Nice, I love these oil field trucks!! My first, and definitely not my last 14 hours ago, DrKerry said: Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!! This is gonna get exciting now boys!!!!!!!!! Lol ? Hahaha found my envisioning tool...took a few days to read thru your playbook..and now ready to build 4 minutes ago, Jim B said: This is going to be awesome. Thanks Jim ! I'm gonna chop some length off the frame behind axles , yet to be determined
kilrathy10 Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 That is a seriously massive truck you're building... Looking great, already...

gotnitro? Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 Sooo...I knew I'd need to replace the front springs to taller stack after that huge engine caused them to sag.. That's using the kit springs lol !!! Anyone know a good welder ? Guess I'm making new springs. I broke out the envisioning tool..and mocked up the bed layout. That's 105k winch from plaskit , and definitely up to the task. I guesstimate a 24 ft bed . The frame will get chopped off right after the wheels , leaving room for the large roller seen on these trucks anyone who's built one , or seen them please jump in and feel free to make suggestions.
bigred63 Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Cool! I am a big fan of all types of Oil Field truck, especially Bed Trucks, and Winch Trucks! Are you going to have Flip 5th wheel, or have the king pin comes up from the body? Will this have Gins poles? There's a lot of different builds for Bed trucks.
DrKerry Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Lookin’ good Jeff!! Glad to see ‘dem squirrels Leavin’ ya alone!!!
tbill Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Looking good Jeff, hope the squirrels don’t get you too off track on this......, lol.

Guess this would be called a bed truck ? I wasn't adding gin poles or 5th wheel, just a heavy winch or 2 inside a cage. I found a photo of one pulling a water tank onto the bed, and might scratch one in process..dunno yet ! any feedback about them would be great, I'm just learning about these types of equipment. 2 hours ago, DrKerry said: Lookin’ good Jeff!! So far they're being quiet... probably confusing them since I'm home all day now ! 1 hour ago, tbill said: Looking good Jeff, hope the squirrels don’t get you too off track on this......, lol. Me Too !! I dont have much shelf space left for anything else right now !
gotnitro? Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 Springs have sprung! Fabbed up a new set from 030x 156 evergreen strips. Found a front shot of a 6x6 kw , and noticed its mounts were much taller...bingo ! I also cleaned off the frame rails to finish the fish plates . Heres the dog bones I made to connect the spring to its rear mount ...and made too short . Easy peezy..chop some more and try again originally I wanted the boxy diamond plate fenders seen on C500 rigs . Trying the aftermarket and striking out..I found enough profile pics to scratch a set . Plastruct makes an excellent sheet of DP , and doesnt require a band saw to cut that's it for today !
Jim B Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 I thought the C500 had a straight front frame, as opposed to the drop front frame like the W900?

delta99 Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 This is going to be a cool truck, I'll be following
gotnitro? Posted April 11, 2020 Author Posted April 11, 2020 Well..minor set back..the engine didnt fit like I thought after mocking up exhaust. The turbos and manifolds hit frame. I relieved the rails , and probably end up changing to naturally aspirated engine . If anyone has the non turbo specific parts PM me thanks

gotnitro? Posted April 11, 2020 Author Posted April 11, 2020 Good idea Kerry !!! Sometimes power tools get us out of a mess..luckily this time no squirrels were hurt.. I ended up raising the radiator and cab slightly over a mm, and that was enough for the exhaust to clear . There might..big might be enough room to run turbo plumbing if..I'm able to change the exhaust flanges to a vertical mount . Going non turbo is still optional
