THarrison351 Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Another one of the many old cars I'm digging out of boxes that haven't seen the light of day in at least fifteen years. I'm in the process of cleaning out my hobby/storage room. I've decided to document and take pictures of all my old built models. This one is about 28 years old because I remember building it as soon as it was released. The magazines panned it due to several inaccuracies such as the roof line above the door having too much curve and some issues with the engine. The only thing I remember not liking about the build was it sat too high up front. I don't remember exactly how I lowered the front, but I did. I can't remember what color this is either. It does suffer from some yellowing from the clear enamel. Anyways, here it is in it's dusty glory. More cars to come.
espo Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 This has held up well for all those years and obviously was well built back then. Like you I built and still have the little Fairlane I built when they first came out. The only real problem I recall was the Wheel Backs set the tires to far out and didn't clear the inner fenders well. Maybe it was just the builder at the time. I like the color combination you used on yours.
Rodent Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Having owned several Ford "shock tower" cars, it really bothers me that AMT totally ignored the upper shock mount on these kits, plus the tower itself is a little too large. Scott at Futurattraction casts the mounts from an original kit and IMHO they help the look of the engine compartment immensely. Here is a '67 289 underhood shot for those of you who don't know what I am talking about. Mounts aren't the same as a Mustang. The Fairlane uses a stud. Mustang uses a "T" mount.
