Jon Haigwood Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 (edited) I was watching an episode of American Pickers and they showed a beautiful stock 39 Zephyr. Is there any way to convert another kit to be a Zephyr? I know flintsones has a custom body but I was think more of a stock build. (and the last flinstones body I bought was unbuild-able There is a 41 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet not sure how close this would be to a Zephyr Coupe/Convertible, Edited August 27, 2020 by Jon Haigwood
stitchdup Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 You would need the monogram kit and a 40 coupe/convert for the rear end. I think there is one done this way on the forum
Mark Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 The Continental was based on the Zephyr. You'd be able to use the chassis and interior as starting points, but the Continental was sectioned and rebodied for the most part. Depending on the chosen body style, you might be able to piece a Zephyr body together from sections of Ford bodies. Though the Zephyr is pre-war, I'd probably look at '48 Ford body panels (the '48 has origins in the '41 Ford, and is larger/wider/closer to Lincoln styling than the '40 Ford). Lots of work any way you look at it, but can probably be done with enough determination.
Mike999 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 If you want to take the easy way out and have a nice model to display...Testors did a 1/18 scale diecast kit of a '39 Zephyr.
paul alflen Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 (edited) Ron cash did a resin model of it as a hardtop Years ago. I don't have any pics of it! OK YOU OLDTIMERS, SHOW us YOUR RESIN STASHES OF IT! Edited August 27, 2020 by paul alflen spelling and grammar
Richard Bartrop Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Here's a 1941 Lincoln compared with a 1941 Lincoln Zephyr. The big difference, aside from the rear end, is that the Continental body is lower, so you'll have to unsection it. There are also various trim differences between .39 and '41. but those are fairly minor.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 (edited) Geez...where to start. Besides the "unsectioning" of the body shell... ...the lengths of the door and rear quarter ahead of the fenders is different... ...the shapes, lengths, proportions, and curves of the fenders are different... ...the lower body shell of the Zephyr is molded to imply vestigial running boards... ...the roll at the door and quarter tops and into the cowl is different... Frankly, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be much easier to start with a '40 Ford convert and stretch the wheelbase the approximate 10" to get to the Zephyr's 122"... ...but there's still a WHOLE LOT OF DIFFERENCES, but to my eye, there are more similarities: Edited August 27, 2020 by Ace-Garageguy
misterNNL Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Thanks for posting all those great dead-on side shots in high res. Graceful ans simply gorgeous cars.
Claude Thibodeau Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 Hi! The 41 Monogram Continental is all that has been stated above... plus, it is much WIDER in the middle of the cabin than the 40 Ford. It WAS a luxury high-end car after all, so it had to play the part back then... CT
Jon Haigwood Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 Thanks for the info. Sounds like a challenge
