dougwintz
Usually I build cars - if its a truck usually just something like a Flareside or like that. Having just finished a Pagani, I wanted to move on to something easier. So I picked this Unimog - but was surprised by how detailed the chassis is. Here's my start. dougwintz
Hi. The Dakar kit is the one I wanted, but I couldn't find it. I have this one

Oh, okay good to know. I'll be watching! BTW: I never have seen that kit before, when it was for sale on a Facebook Marketplace, I jumped at the chance. mikemodeler
Nice work so far, it builds up very nice. I drove a couple of Uni's back in the early 80's when I worked at the M-B dealership, they were a blast, could go through anything!
dougwintz
Couple more photos of WIP. The 1:1 truck was the look I was trying to go after. The underside of the bed is comprised of about 15 parts! I have to attach the lights there next. But I'm amazed at the level of detail in the kit. I did a test fit of the cab and bed to see what it might look like. Not glued and the top is not attached yet - but it seems to be coming along nicely. tmathew1us
Just as a heads up, sometimes the tires can sag a bit due to the weight of the model they must support. One trick is to pack the tires with cotton to help support and keep their shape over time. Coming along nicely!

dougwintz
This light and siren bar has 30 pieces! A lot of detail in this kit.
PatW
Neat! I've looked at one of these kits for a long time, but done nothing. Our local tree surgeon has real one.

If I were to do it over again, I would use clear acetate for the windshield, as it has some unsightly tabs. And, I would open up the hood to expose the engine. But I just had to say "when" at some point and finish it.
