Just wanted to build some box-stockers I guess, and that was the excuse. Yours were amazing, what the heck were those that won like?! Final bit of work on the Skyline 4-door this weekend: 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 4dr kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 4dr kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Didn't hugely enjoy the BMF work on it, regrettably when I trimmed and peeled the excess back I lost a few bits of the maroon paint and red primer, it went right through to the white plastic! A bit of strategic touching-up makes it look OK on the shelf even if it doesn;t bear close inspection..... 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 4dr kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 4dr kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Not difficult to tell them apart! Steve H Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 They look fantastic Nigel! I still can’t believe how warped and messed up the old ones were. Beautiful work, look forward to seeing the other 2. Cheers, Steve

Thanks Alex and Steve. Being self-critical I think my original build was slightly better, but it's great to see it on the shelf again. Haven't done much in the last week but after squirting the sprues with a bit of primer one evening I was in a position to enjoy some straightforward work on the Silvia today. Wasn't in the frame of mind to do anything too taxing, but a bit easy brush painting on the interior was just what I needed. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Silvia K's kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr This one suffered less than some of the others. The damage makes it look like it's been drifted into something solid, rather appropriate given the fate of so many Silvias. I can re-use a reasonable amount of the original parts, including the suspension which I spent some time lowering. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Silvia K's kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Where I was at the beginning of today. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Silvia K's kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr And after some low-stress painting - I didn't have a huge amount of time but wanted to do something that moved it forwards. Also applied BMF to the back of the front and rear lights and to the front indicators (which then need to be painted with clear orange). This kit is going to end up very close to the original. As a concept I was pleased with how it turned out first time around, I think this S13 generation of Silvia looks really good and the champagne colour and wheel choice is pretty much what I'd like at 1:1. Progress has been a bit slow on this recently for various reasons, but by chipping away at the tedious window trim painting I'm hoping to get it finished this weekend. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Silvia K's kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr One of the male pins on the back of the ex-BMW M635 wheels had snapped-off. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Silvia K's kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Drilled a hole and glued-in an offcut of spare Tamiya axle. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Silvia K's kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Interior pretty much out of the box, but with an accessory steering wheel from an Aoshima Nissan Cedric kit just for the sake of making it a little different to the first time around. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Silvia K's kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Everything ready for final assembly. External window trims need a tiny bit of tidying-up and the panel lines need a quick wash of something darker (probably brown in this case).
Steve H Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 Hi Nigel, not sure if I missed it in the thread somewhere, but what colours did you use for the interior. They look fantastic! Cheers, Steve

Just brush-painted matt enamel, I think the lighter shade was Humbrol #29 and the dark brown was Revell #84, with bit of Revell #9 for the 'black' details. Just spent an hour or so doing bits that need to be left for a while like PVA glue for the lights. Panel lines done, but I've been struggling with the front suspension for some reason. It's all taken from the previous build, but it doesn't seem to be fitting together as well and when I thought I'd sorted it all I managed to snap one of the struts.....
Sam I Am Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 I have been following this thread, and one, I have never seen this type of damage before, and two, I would have used them for parts, and three...the steering wheels are on the wrong flipping side of the car!! (Get that? Flip the steering wheel and it's...oh nevermind) FOUR, you are doing an awesome job keeping parts of the original builds as part of the new. Keep it up! ?
Spottedlaurel Posted February 8, 2021 Author Posted February 8, 2021 I'm still plodding through this series of builds, now trying to get the last one across the line. The Skyline coupe was last seen painted in Silver Leaf, but after I'd clearcoated it I struggled with the BMF work and detailing and I wasn't really fully on board with the pale, almost flat quality of the silver. Decided to sand it down and go for TS42 Light Gunmetal instead: 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline R30 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr I'm happy with that, applying it over paintwork that had already been polished meant I had a smooth base. I thought I'd gone a bit heavy with the TS13 clear, but I just about got away with it. The chips that it picked up after I dropped it on the floor partway through the process aren't too visible now. The colour looks good, it reminds me of this 1:1 I used to see at shows, seen here alongside the previous-gen Skyline I owned at the time: 1983 Nissan Skyline RS Turbo (R30) + 1979 240K GT (C210) in 2001(?) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr I'm using the floorpan and most of the interior from the original, sun-damaged build so this really shouldn't be as difficult as I'm making it, but that's way some of them go isn't it?.........
Spottedlaurel Posted February 20, 2021 Author Posted February 20, 2021 Last WIP update on the last car in this series....... New bodyshell and original chassis/interior ready to be attached. The grey wash was my attempt at giving it a tweedy look. Had to replace the interior side panels as the originals had warped with the bodyshell. Most of the parts on the left were salvaged from the original kit. Nearly there, just a bit tidying to do on the 'black' trim paintwork and attach the plates, mirrors etc.
