glockexe Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Just curious, as i’m just starting off, with a car my wife bought for me 10+ years ago, my interest runs in old drag cars, 60’s hot rods, as i’m 76 my thoughts are they quit making great cars in the 60’s, was wondering do you guys build a variety of models, cars, boats, planes, war ships or stick pretty much to one genre, and did you start with one area then move to one or more, thanks
Snake45 Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I do cars and airplanes (mainly cars for the last decade or so), and a tank every now and then if the mood strikes me.
SCRWDRVR Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I’ve always done cars, pick ups and big trucks and mostly 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Outside of that I do nascar and some drag racing but all automobiles of some type
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I started on everything from planes and military subjects, to ships and motorcycles. I settled on cars from around 1950 to 1970 built almost exclusively factory stock. I guess you could say that the history and art of the automobiles from this period are what really trips my trigger. Moreover, taking a simplified vintage kit from the 50s or 60s and adding detail much more comparable to a modern kit is the challenge that I find most stimulating. Steve
slusher Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Go to Hobby Lobby and see what you like or interests you!
Bucky Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I started at 8 years old with a snap-together Studebaker my aunt gave me for my birthday. I've stuck mainly with the civilian vehicle side of the hobby, building stock, custom, race, junkers, cars, pickups, big rigs, and boats. I have dabbled a little with some military stuff, but not very much.
stitchdup Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I build vehicles mainly, mostly customised in some way but I've got a 1/24 spitfire that will pronanly end up as the load on a truck. I would like to build one of the wooden viking ships at some point. I'd like to build more big rogs but space is a problem for me. Also I have a 1/24 dino skeleton to build at some point but it will probably be some sort of diorama that includes a vehicle or two
Ctmodeler Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 There's a ton of 60s cars drag custom stock you name it! You're gonna love it
Spottedlaurel Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Pretty much what I like at 1:1, so cars and light trucks for me and a mix of Japanese, American and European, generally 1950s-90s but the odd older or younger one may sneak in. Usually modified in some way, even if just a wheel change. Been like that since I started building in the 1980s - I attempted a 1:24 Spitfire once which someone gave me as a gift but I didn't have any enthusiasm for it and I assume it got chucked away (shame, as I could use the engine in something silly). If you build what you like at 1:1 I think you'll have more enthusiasm and do a better job on it.
espo Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Being the same age I can relate to your taste in automobiles. Usually I'll build a subject as if it were my own personal vehicle and what I would do with it if it were mine. Latly I have started trying to build something different and usually based on a car I might see in a magazine or at a show. The great thing about this hobby is there really isn't any hard and fast rules. You just do your own thing the way you want and enjoy it.
El Roberto Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 The majority of my builds are military aircraft models, everything from WW1 to present. I build some armor, sci fi subjects, etc. However I recently started building cars again, since that was my intro into model building back in the stone age when I was a teen. I like hot rods, muscle cars, and whatever strikes my fancy.
