I washed the cab, primer laid down clean then color coat had a mysterious brain fart other side has a few spots too I hate when that happens! Maybe that is why I like to build working trucks. It looks great though! I really like the blue stripes on the yellow. This has been one awesome build!
gotnitro? Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 Thanks , this is getting weathered a bit so hopefully those spots will blend in. I'm gonna try to touch up those dots Those stripes really worked out along with the black hood..breaks up the yellow ! Now to do something with interior and add glass
gotnitro? Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 (edited) Built up a set of tire chains today, once one pattern was figured out they went pretty fast. I used oval shaped jewelry chain for the long sides w round craft chain for the cross bars like photos I found . Pinned 6 inch long chains to Styrofoam to keep even then cut 12 bars at 12 links each . I used small copper craft wire to tie them together. Make piles of cross bars then wire together repeat...repeat..etc Wrapped a tire to check fit and snapped a few pics ...I originally wasn't sure on chains , but after mocking up on chassis I was sold . And the money shot.. They're in primer now , can't wait to hang them for good ! Edited January 30, 2021 by gotnitro? Fixed spelling
Mopar - D Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Jeff those chains look awesome! How long did it take to make them? Your right they do make a difference to the look of the truck.
doorsovdoon Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 That's some great work on the chains! Love it.?

My wire ties got much cleaner on last set so I reworked all the crappy ones w new loops . Really glad I took the time , the truck needed something more visual to complete the story and think the chains help. They've been dusted w weathering powders cant wait to hang em

The number of cars I've scrapped in my time because of corrosion!

gotnitro? Posted January 31, 2021 Author Posted January 31, 2021 (edited) Today the weathering starts, I mixed up a few dirt/ mud colored tamiya pigment powders and coated the frame and tires . This will be a multi layer attack on that shiny paint job..if ya can't stand trucks dirty...hit the back button and scroll past...thanks for watching up till now First coat slobbered on to create a deep dust coat , yes its very heavy right now..its gonna lose most of it..its a Mack not an Oshkosh it can't handle that much dirt lol The tire treads got mucked up pretty heavy, I looked at several plows working my roads and they looked dusty w sand mainly w a trace of slush . I went a sand mud powder and glossed it on. Once it dries ill brush the treads down . I added some dirt /sand in the wheels to create the buildup seen when trucks parked . The sides got a little more than I planned, getting carried away w brush. Ill adjust the buildup layer later Thats it for now ! Thanks for watching Edited January 31, 2021 by gotnitro?
Mopar - D Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 Jeff I think you’re having to much fun with this weathering. Lol. Can’t wait to see more.
gotnitro? Posted February 4, 2021 Author Posted February 4, 2021 Wish I had a real one after the last storm, took over 2 hrs to clean out from the storm...oh well. Took a few minutes after clearing out snow to actually chain up the RM and wipe down some of the weathering .. The interior is in primer finally , hoping to get cab mounted after thats painted. Not to shabby for starting in Nov
Warren D Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Great job with the chains! I'll have you make the next set I need! LOL!
Mopar - D Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Excellent Jeff can’t wait to see it with the cab on. Your snow clean up reminds me of when I was growing up in up state NY. I don’t miss your winters.
Chariots of Fire Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 That is some fine work! You sold me on the tire chains. Never thought they would look good but you did it! Great job!
gotnitro? Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 Thanks for all the positive feedback about the tire chains , I'm really glad i spent the time making them. Been busy working on our 32 g reef tank adding coral lately so the trucks been waiting..ya know what they say about squirrels Our newest addition is a black torch i bought off evil b ...showed up in rough shape but seems to like its new home On 2/4/2021 at 6:40 PM, Warren D said: Great job with the chains! Mopar - D Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Jeff that’s interesting black torch coral I’m assuming your tank is salt water. I’m still waiting for you to make some more progress on your snow blower.

I puttered with the RM last night awhile , shot some rust brown along the auger discs and around the bank head, there's more to come .they seem to repaint these frequently, so heavy wear wasn't noted . I added a few rock chips inside w a piece of fine wire making paint dots The red areas were just spots the paints rubbed off to exposed primer underneath where most of the action happens
89AKurt Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Killer project! Love the chains. Need to keep an eye open for that mesh.
