Hey, guys.... I know that we have some dog lovers here, I was hoping some of you could give me some advice. I had my dog on Taste of the Wild salmon recipe for the first three years or so that I've had her. As she got older, she was showing disinterest in her food. I'm on the hunt for a good food that I can put her on and keep her on it. There's SO MANY different foods out there that it's getting confusing and frustrating trying to pick a good one. There's only a few requirements, it needs to be grain-free, for a senior dog, and not overly expensive....... How hard is that, right?

Anyone have any recommendations? Also, where do you order your foods from if you do order it?

Thanks, guys for any help..........

I've used Core Wellness Senior Grain Free turkey/chicken dry dog food and Wellness 95% Chicken grain free wet food for years for my pack of small terriers.  A couple of them have sensitive stomachs and they have been fine on Core Wellness.  I have used their seafood variety as well.  It's US made also.   I get it from Amazon.

We went Iams mini-chunks as I have an Aussie that has an allergy to a lot of the meats in dry food that she ended up getting hot spots.  The mini-chunks as I also have two smaller dogs that snarf their food and it sounds like Nathan' Hot Dog eating contest.

We were buying it from Sam's Club but you can get comparable prices from Chewy and not have to deal with people that ring up a cart full of stuff and then act surprised they have to PAY for it as they go searching for their debit card.

You've been feeding your dog the same flavored food for three years? The dog is probably bored. Or maybe it's like me. I love fish, but not salmon. Wild or fame raised. But, even if I liked salmon, three years of it, I'd show disinterest too.

I'm a Fromm person.  They are a family owned business out of Wisconsin.  Large variety of canned and dry. Their food has never had a recall.  Been using for several years now.

My GF is into feeding her little yappers (a Papillon and a Chihuahua) raw dog food.  It comes frozen in kibble-size chunks. She mixes some dry kibble and some human frozen veggies into it. She nukes the dishes for few seconds to defrost it all.  On Sundays they get a special treat: Raw chicken necks!  Yum!

They sound very spoiled!

I believe I've found a food for her on Chewy...... It's American Journey Chicken and Sweet Potato. It's got a lot of good stuff in it to help an arthritic pooch.

They sure are spoiled rotten!  :D  But they are both smart, lovable and affectionate pups (except the chihuahua is very yappy and a bit crazy).  I'm glad you found some new food - I hope your dog will like it.  There are lots of of different dog foods out there - pet support is is a giant industry.  Not like in the old days where you had Alpo, few other brands, and table scraps..

Just wondering why you need grain free? Fewer than 1% of dogs have dietary difficulties with grains and excluding grains can threaten the health of their hearts. Contemporary American culture has been modifying diets according to fads, then applying that to their pets. Some dog food companies exploit those fads to convince pet owners their food is the best because it's most like what we eat ourselves.

That said, the lovely Ms. L and I over the years feed our (many) dogs Purina Pro Plan because it's well rated and there are different kinds to suit the needs of different dogs, including age, stomach sensitivities and energy levels.

Best price is usually from Amazon unless it's on sale locally. We buy large bags, so God bless those UPS drivers.

English Bull Terriers usually can't eat grains....... it makes them itchy, it has nothing to do with their digestive tract. The food that I'm gonna try her on has Glucosamine in it, along with fish oils and such. They generally have arthritis at later stages in life because they're so bombastic in their youth.......

Here's the latest pic I have of her! Such a good dog..... Mom told me recently, "I don't know what you'll do if something ever happens to that dog." I don't, either...... She's my constant companion, and we never get tired of each other......

Two of my foursome are on a Glucosamine supplement.  Turner is almost 12 and (per the Xray) the ball never fully developed in his hind hips so he's always had issues and this has helped him tremendously.  I've been on it for 20 plus years after a recommendation from a former NFL player turned trainer.

I gave mine Purina Beneful topped with gravy made from chicken scraps, boiled chicken liver, a little bit of carrots and apple. Put the ingredients in a blender and there you go.

I also made “jerky” in the dehydrator. It had chicken, boiled chicken liver, and dried blueberries. When dried, the pieces looked like Chihuahua turds, but she loved them.
