Just Jim Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Well, after weeks of internal debate, I finally pulled the trigger and created an account. Don’t get me wrong, the people, models, and knowledge sharing are all great! I am definitely a better modeler for having found this site. However, I’m pretty sure I’m never going to have the tools or talent to really bring anything to the table in a forum that has a thread titled “Real or Model”. Pretty certain none of my models are ever going to be mistaken for real cars. Nevertheless, I thought it only fair to contribute if I’m going to lurk. Just got back into the hobby after a couple of decades away taking care of home and family. However, when my youngest flew the coop, I found a barely started 68 Vette in the back of his closet and decided to do something constructive with my new found free time. Truth is I think I enjoy it now more than I did as a kid and having the whole world (via the Internet) to explore and learn from has only made the experience that much better. Away, I go…
iamsuperdan Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 Hi Jim, welcome! Don't be intimidated by what you see! Yes, we have some highly skilled builders who can create things virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. But we also have beginners, and plenty of intermediate builders. I think the common theme is that we all enjoy what we do, and how we do it. There is a ridiculous amount of knowledge and support here, so don't be afraid to ask questions or post your work!
Tom Geiger Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 Agreeing with Dan! Like many, I built models in m teens and tried to get back a couple of times as an adult, but gave up! Why? I was still building with my teen knowledge and skill set. Then I found and joined a club.. people taught me what to use and the tricks. My models got better quickly! Today you have the Internet and this site! It’s like having a model club 24/7. And everyone here is happy to help!
Just Jim Posted January 20, 2021 Author Posted January 20, 2021 Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and words of encouragement.
misterNNL Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Never be intimidated by the models you see here, but be inspired by them I have been doing this longer than a lot of the members have been on this planet and still am inspired daily to kick things up a notch or three.Simply enjoy your bench time building what you like the way you like it.
89AKurt Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Welcome! Ignore guys like me, we're insane. ? The important thing is, you have the time, you have the will, and you might end up finishing more models than many of us. I discover subjects that I didn't know existed, so that's the risk of hanging out here.
misterNNL Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Some of us have been tagged as " lunatic fringe". Consider yourself warned:)
