Mr mopar Posted January 29, 2021 Author Posted January 29, 2021 The decals look so much better then the original one's ....Kelly Daniel does Awesome art work !!

While the original Unreal Roller box (and reissues, from what I can tell) doesn't actually feature any artwork by Tom Daniel, it certainly has that early '70s Monogram look, which many associate with TD-designed kits. Son Kelly's artwork does nothin to evoke nostalgia as it appears to be all digitally created-- a distinct difference from Tom's original artwork. Now Kelly's art doesn't have to be the same as his father's, but something feels off, and it feels like a lost opportunity for Atlantis to me. I'm sure the kits will sell just fine, but great nostalgic box art never hurts. If what we see on the new box art is what the decals will be, that's also disappointing, for the same reason I mentioned above. Don't mess with the classics, Atlantis.
Mark Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Not my thing, but I'd agree with Casey on the decals. If Atlantis wants to do new graphics, fine, but the original scheme should be included as an alternative. I would go with artwork for the boxes though, even if the original issue used photos.

I here you on that Casey ....But just maybe they will have the original decals in there . but if you look at the King Chopper there is two sets of decals The original and the new one's !!
Daddyfink Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 After looking at the original that Casey posted, I too hope they include the original decals, and that they at least mold it in white instead of green.

Ah, that makes sense. Guess we'll keep our fingers crossed, then.
dbostream Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 What's the story behind this kit? Was there a competition who could design the weirdest looking vehicle and the prize was to have it tooled? I am not criticizing the kit I am genuinely interested in how this kit came to be or the vehicle rather.

OldNYJim Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 It’s really happening!!! ??????❤️ VERY excited for this one to come back!
stavanzer Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Daniel,, Maybe this will help tp show the Mindset in the late 1960's & early 1970's that spawned these wacky kits. http://www.showrods.com/home_page_links/home.html http://www.tomdaniel.com/ If you weren't a kid in those days, the appeal of these kits might be puzzling.

Mr. Metallic Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Looks like Atlantis was able to come to an agreement with TD. That's great news for other TD kits they should have in their tooling bank If only Revell AG/Revell USA/Blitz could work it out their own deal with TD so they could finally release the Baja Bandito/Baja Beast 1
stavanzer Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Craig, I agree with you, but the rumors that have appeared online seem to indicate the the Revell/TD Bridges are burnt rather permanently. However, This is Modeling, and if the last 5 years have taught us anything, it has taught the Modeling Community, to "Never say Never" about Licensing Agreements and Old Tooling. We have almost no idea of what is happening behind closed doors, and what kind of abrupt changes can happen. So there is always hope. 1
Dave Van Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 Got my Groovy and Unreal Friday.....very well done. To thank Atlantis I am buying multiples of both! 1
Brian Austin Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 FWIW, there was a series of these, all designed by T.D. There was a grader, a steam shovel, a dump truck and others besides the roller. My father built the Honest Engine (steam locomotive) in the mid '70s and we still have it. Strange looking for sure, but fun. Models with a sense of humor! 1
slusher Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 Models are not only fun but build wonderful memories..
Daddyfink Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 I am very happy to finally have one again, but, I do wish they would have included the original decals for it. The new ones are nice, but I wanted that original look. Molding it in color is very period correct, not many of us kids had spray paints, or allowed near them! So for a kid, this works out great. I can primer and correct the color, but the decals, that is a different matter. Looking forwards to seeing more great re-issues from Atlantis! 1
