RichCostello Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 I saw on Tower Hobbies website, a Revell 65 Mustang 2+2 fastback in 1/25 scale(#RVL07065). Is this a new kit, or has it been around a while? I'd like to have a 65 fastback in 1/25, but I don't think I've ever seen this kit, and I don't know if I want to spend $35 on a kit that i know nothing about Of course, they don't have it in stock(like most other kits), but I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it.
1972coronet Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 I would imagine that it's the same ,Monogram-origins , c.1984 ad seq. kit that's been around in various liveries since , well , 1984 . Definitely 1/24 scale .
1972coronet Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Additionally ; the original was moulded in red , and was released in 1986 or early 1987 ( that's when I bought my copy ) . It went-together quite well , from what I remember . Last time that I built any of those '65-'66 Mustang kit was in 1988 --- the G.T. 350-H kit ( black & gold ) .
Snake45 Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 What Coronet said. It's a pretty decent kit, but it's definitely 1/24 scale, not 1/25.
Casey Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 (edited) Wrong scale listed on Tower's website. Same old 1/24 Monogram kit, just in the European style box, with correct scale printed on box: Edited February 3, 2021 by Casey
Snake45 Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Still worth picking up if you like the subject matter. This particular variant hasn't been available in a long time.
RichCostello Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 That's what I was afraid of. I'm not spending 35 bucks on a 1/24 scale kit.

You'll spend more than that on even a restorable builtup 1/25 AMT original or less-than-perfect promo. I know--I've bought 6 or 7 of them in the last few years. The only other way to get to a 1/25 '65-'66 Mustang fastback is to bash the AWB body with the '66 coupe kit, and you'll have more than $35 in that, too, and still need an interior tub.
Casey Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 (edited) Here's a good look at the contents of the 2014 reissue of this 1/25 Revell-AG '65 Mustang GT kit: https://intscalemodeller.com/viewtopic.php?f=677&t=26198 Last U.S. boxing, from 2009?: Edited February 3, 2021 by Casey
Rob Hall Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 It’s a nice kit. Built several of them, the Shelby versions and stock 2+2, along w/ the convertible variations.
RichCostello Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 I don't doubt that it's a nice kit, I just saw it listed as a 1/25 scale kit, and wondered if it was a kit that I had missed. It's not a big deal, I have more kits than I'll be able to build in my lifetime. I build 1/25 scale models, and have built a few Mustangs, and to my eyes a 1/24 scale Mustang(as good as it might be)would look STUPID displayed with them. I just asked a simple question, and now I'll get beat up for not buying a kit because it's 1/24 scale. My question has been answered, it was a misprint, and that is all I wanted to know.
Sledsel Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Decent kit, goes together well, 1/24 scale. Something off in the headlight grill area though. Revell has been known to label a 1/24 kit as being 1/25.

The decal sheet looks improved over the older issues but as Snake45 said the 1/25 builders will have to pony up some bucks for an original issue 65 or 66 fastback which is why I only have some glue bombs in that scale due to the collector prices.
keyser Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 I didn’t notice anyone beating on anyone. Snake knows what he’s talking about. I haven’t bought as many as he has but it’s hard to get decent 25th AMT. Great kits, and I forget but I thought a 350H had the roof vents on a tree?

Just a question, and as Rex said, Revell has been known to mis-label the scale when their boxes go to print. Might be good fodder for further discussion in this topic: And definitely in this one. How is there not an accurate stock '65-'66 Mustang fastback available???:

I bought three of them last year and restored four (the fourth was my own original from 1966). In 2019 I also bought and restored three, plus a nice red '65 promo that I haven't laid the Snake-Fu on yet. This one was by far the nicest, and the closest to stock/unmodified. I didn't do much to it but clean it, detail-paint the wheel covers, and Silver Sharpie the window trim. I forget exactly what I paid for it but I considered it a bargain at the time. It wasn't over or even near $100; only thing I've ever paid near that much for is a nice '69 Javelin promo. I'm about Mustang-ed out for the moment and haven't been looking at/for them lately.
