If any of you are subscribers to Fine Scale Modeler,  you may want to check this out.  They just posted a full kit review/completed buildup of the '64 Cutlass Convertible for subscribers at their Fine Scale website....TIM

I saw the Round 2 video with the convertible. The hardtop is a go, too?

Charlie Larkin

Yes it is a go; they've already built a test shot and apparently everything is OK.

I don't know any specifics about their production date for a hardtop version, but my guess is that it will be some time before they actually place it into production.   Those wanting a hardtop sooner than later would be advised to consider the relatively easy AMT '65 GTO greenhouse swap onto the convertible body, as referenced in various posts above....TIM

I was going to do that GTO swap, but I can wait - Round 2 will probably do a better job than I can.

Tim, I trust this coupe will be one piece; the roof will not be an add-on, right?

Never been able to access the review page on the site. I am a subscriber and logged in and it still wants some kind of an access code to continue. Don't need to spend a lot of time jumping thru hoops and get nowhere. Tried customer service but get no response.

You might contact customer service again. I had the same problem. They closed my account and then re-opened it with the same login and it's worked fine since. They extended my subscription to compensate for the aggravation. JIM

Jim...thanks for the update and advice.  They are moving to putting more and more content on their website and it behooves them to make access easy for their customers.

Tony, don't quote me on this, but I think there is a number on your magazine mailing label that is the number they are looking for....or at least that's the way it was back in the day of SA.....  As Jim says, recommend you try again with Kalmbach....  If that does not work, please send me a PM with your subscriber info and I will send it directly to the Editor of the mag and ask him to have the KB team follow-up....

Thanks for the suggestions/help. I got an automatic reply from Fine Scale saying they'll get back to me as soon as possible so thought I'd wait just a bit longer.

Tried to access content at the site again today but get nowhere. I'm still logged in and the label # you spoke of is entered but they also want an access code that can be found on my digital edition ??? Try logging in to that but it goes nowhere. I like to think of myself as fairly intelligent but this site is very frustrating.

Not impressed with the whole Fine Scale magazine and site especially since it was dumped on me after the Scale Auto fiasco.

Tony, I agree regarding your comments on Fine Scale Modeller.  When Kalmbach announced they will be cancelling Scale Auto, they told us they would have more automotive content in FSM...BS. Very disappointing and can't wait until my subscription ends

I requested my money back . I was sent an Issue of Fine Scale . I called again and received my refund a day later . Post marked 3 days Prior IIRC . That is on me . Received another issue  called again . That is on them . I reminded them I did NOT appreciate Bait and Switch . Hey , Regardless I'm a grumpy non compliant old man . So there .. blattt . Thanx

Hoping I'm not hijacking the original subject.... I enjoy model building in general so thought I'd try and ride out the rest of my subscription which ends next year.

The 1964 Cutlass is mildly interesting only for the "racing" version. Not into convertibles at all. Thanks for the look inside the box. This is the best type of thing for me as I want to know everything there is about a kit before I buy.

Looks like the arrival-date for this long-awaited kit keeps moving backwards; looks like mid/late April now. I wonder if these are stranded on a cargo ship waiting in line to finally port at San Diego harbor?!?*+?

They (along with the '72 Chevy w/Coke stuff) got added to the April distribution list over the weekend.  Online vendors would do themselves a solid if they'd stop aggressively guesstimating release dates, all it seems to do is rile up customers when things are "late".  I get both sides, they want to generate interest and pre-orders, but then everyone blames Round2 when stuff doesn't show up at those pre-planned times.  Of course Round2 fuels that fire by putting stuff in monthly videos they aren't actually releasing in the given month of the video as well.

Yeah, Long Beach is a mess and ain't gonna get better for awhile. My employer brings our stuff from Japan through there to our LA warehouse and we are running 3-4 weeks behind getting shipments.

Hang in there, it's coming, just not as fast as we hoped.

Bringing this thread back to the front of the forum pages to go along with the other thread on the '64 Cutlass Convertible.  If you didn't see this one first time around, the first post in this thread includes a link to a detailed "what's inside the box" look and commentary....

Can anyone help with what color the motor and parts should be? It doesnt say like other kits do

Block , heads , intake = Gold

Air Cleaner = Red ( I've seen them in semi-gloss black , which is likely what a standard 330 Olds would've been equipped with )

Rocker Covers = Plated

Transmission / Bellhousing = Steel or Cast Iron ( with a bit of engine colour overspray on the bellhousing , if you please )

Exhaust Manifolds = Cast Iron

I could be wrong - I'm certain that someone ( or two ) will correct my information .

Excellent .  It's amazing how I've retained that info over the decades , but have to try to remember which side of the faucet's handle permits 'cold' and 'hot' water ! Haha.

First Detailed Look - Round 2's AMT 1964 Olds Cutlass Convertible 3 in 1

The team at Round 2 continues to break new ground. Who ever have expected that we would ever see a factory stock 1964 Olds Cutlass kit return to the market, especially after the original tool was heavily modified in 1967 to produce a one-time run of a not-very-accurate funny car kit?

Yet here we are. Amazing. Not only is the original factory stock kit content restored, but almost all of the 3 in 1 race and custom version content remains. Newly tooled parts are the convertible body, front and rear plated bumpers, and the clear and transparent red parts trees.

At this link you'll see 60 photos and captions with closer look - the easiest and quickest way to do this is to use the "Scroll" button to your lower left.  You'll see the full new kit contents, box art, instruction sheet, and decal sheet, along with a detailed look at the new body casting, and comparison shots of the newly tooled parts vs. the original 1964 annual kit counterparts.  As of this date (13 February 2021), apparently the Round 2 team expects the kits to appear in retail distribution channels within a few weeks. So you should be able to grab your copy (copies?) very shortly now.

I'll do my best to answer any questions you have, and thanks for looking!

Full Disclosure: This production kit was sent to me by Round 2 at their initiative. I did not ask for the kit, nor were there any promises made regarding possible coverage here or the tonality of my review and comments.

Update 15 Feb 2021 - see new slides #46 and 47 at the link above for more info on the decal sheets in the original and reissue kits...TB

As of March 2023 you can now access my buildup of this kit at FineScale.com without having a subscription there.  21 images with info, how to, and building advice.  Hope you find it helpful if you are building this kit, or the companion 1964 442 Hardtop kit....TIM
