I bought this recently off of eBay because I thought it was cool and deserved to be brought back to life. Once I got it I realized that the OB had done a "better than normal" job on the bodywork but it needed cleaned up. The first three pics are from the eBay listing.

I tore it down an started on bringing it back to life. The first plan was to get rid of the 59 Impala windshield frame and mold in a frame from a 69 GTO body. I filled in some gaps at the bottom of the door panels where they meet the wheel wells, repainted the interior and detailed the dash. I made a shifter from a straight pin.

I tore the engine down, straightened the crooked heads, and repainted the engine, chassis and exhaust.

I detail painted the wheels for a little added realism.

The body got a good sanding and removed a bit of the road rash. I repainted it in Testors Hugger Orange (Carousel Red) and just this morning sprayed the first coat of clear. Once it dries I'll wetland and hit it with another coat of clear and then decal it.

I'm not looking to do a contest winning model with this but I'm looking forward to getting this on the shelf.

Nice save and bring it back from the dead. Reminds me of the rage in the '60's when people were taking 1:1 cars, usually 4 doors or wagon, and shortened them.

Thanks David.

Got the body wet sanded today. Now to touch up a few small spots where I sanded through and get another coat of clear on before decals.

Working on this one makes me want to start on my 68 and paint it in Liberty Blue.

Looks great Tom,  will you have it buttoned up this weekend?

No I won't. I didn't bring it home from work. I got a coat of clear on it after wetsanding so Monday I should be able to work on the decals.

Got the decals this weekend from Sam I Am (thanks buddy) and got them installed today. Had to cut them up to get a decent length so they are not perfect. A dab of black paint inside each hoodscoop and some panel line accent in the hood vent. Next is a good wipedown of prints and setting solution spots then more Clearcoat.

I finished this PITA today. Glad to have resurrected it but even more glad that it's off of my bench! It fought me at the last.

Moved to Under Glass.
