Great shot - but no driving gloves ?
FPP - Fernando Pinto - makes what appears to be a very nice 24th sc Barchetta -  the older kits mentioned on this list are next to impossible to find- even the 24th sc  MFH kit …

Andrew,

Very good work.  These old resin kits can be a challenge.

I also had some conversations with Mike Quarterman and subscribed to his Motor Racing Replica News magazine.  I met him when I won a UMI Modelwerke kit as a door prize at NNL West long ago.  One of the good guys in this hobby.  I enjoyed the UMI Christmas cards that he sent out.  This one would be appropriate here. Enjoy

An interesting build of a classic sports racing car with aesthetic lines. It would be nice if a mainstream manufacturer like Revell would make one in plastic.I

Besides MFH, I am almost certain that Marshall Buck of Creative Miniature Associates made a resin kit in a larger scale like 1/16th or 1/12th back in the 90's.

Didn't know about those two Bill. Thanks for the info.

The FPP models !/24th scale one should be nice.       I think they  can supply sets of lovely real wire scale wheels as separate items as well.

I can remember some of the Gowland Highway Pioneers series from way back but not the Barchetta. Seem t remember that series was in 1/32nd scale.

I have another of the FPP 166s, and it is very nicely proportioned.

You're right about the Revell Barchetta too...it is indeed 1/32, and not so well-proportioned. But that could be due to the source-car too. As has already been noted, no two of them are the same, and a few of the real ones are downright odd looking.

Ideal did a Barchetta in 1/16 or 1/18 or 1/20 a long time back too. I have a couple I'd intended to massage into a good one and take measurements from in order to scratch one in 1/24 (same reason I bought the old Revell version), but after seeing the FPP version, there's obviously no need.

I THINK this is the Ideal 166:

I’ve got a small bunch of Pinto’s kits - I’m a fan too - and I appreciate his willingness to produce in 24th scale -

I may have the ideal kit at the bottom of my stash - will check -

the 12th scale MFH Barchetta is about done - boy they’re fast - and they did their homework this time - everything looks great - and if you’ve got bout 900 burning a hole in your pocket - add “to your cart” and hit purchase -

if not - their build photos have a lot of very helpful info for our smaller scale builds …

Thanks Bugatti fan [me too].
hope my post wasn’t confusing - I’m eyeballing the Barchetta pix on the MFH site - I am not building one - although you could twist my arm ..

Barchetta needs an engine - these are the master parts for an early 12 cyl that will get casted and find its way into the engine bay … once assembly is under way - ill run down the differences between this engine and a later series 12 - such as the GTO family of engines ….

Back to the trunk - there are some pix on an earlier page of the car that building - i need to make a lip around the trunk opening - think its called a drip rail - im gonna build the lip with Evergreen styrene strip - .015 by .250 - but first i’m making a trench on the underside of the trunk opening at a 90 degree angle to the edge of the opening - using first the back side of this steel cutter - this allows me to sort of bevel the trench - keeping a consistent pattern around the trunk opening …

I really appreciate your building this and sharing it with us.  As mentioned already it was a major expenditure, but I was one of the lucking ones to get one.

Awesome work Andy, as your's always is. I've never done a resin car and looking at this tells me I don't have the skills yet for this.

Until then, watch and learn. Great stuff!

Dont you just live it when you send a text to the wrong part of the inter-planet !    Anyway …
