noname Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 I have been trying to find an aftermarket source for regular old school looking snow tires for 1/25 scale models. I've found a couple sources for truck size snow tires but not smaller sizes that would be used for a car. Anybody know of any? I'm afraid the taller truck sized snow tires may make the car jacked up too high in the back. Might work for a 1/24 scale car? But I'm assuming to big for a car. Thanks
Mark Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 MPC made snow tires in 1/25 scale. They substituted them for military tires in their Jeep kit. The recent Round 2 Jeep in the Godzilla movie packaging will have four (five?) of them. MPC's AMC Pacer kits included two of them also. I'm not sure about the reissue '78 Pacer though. (The '77 station wagon is an AMT kit, it never had them.)
TarheelRick Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Check out Fireball , he has a set of Suburbanites and Gates Commandos which should fit your need, https://fireballmodels.info/ FMR 102 and FMR 103 I have the 102's and they are excellent quality.
peteski Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 (edited) I think I have (MPC?) AMC Pacer model which includes a pair of Good Year tires that look like snow tires (along with 4 regular tires). But that was an original issue kit (not the more recent reruns). Not sure of the newer runs include those tires. Edited November 6, 2021 by peteski
NOBLNG Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 The ones in the Godzilla jeep kit measure 1.095” od. x 0.60” id x 0.37 wide. These ones from the Revell Bronco kit measure 1.125” od. x 0.547” id. x 0.432” wide. The AMT Gear Hustler kit also has a pair?
Mark Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 The ones in the El Camino are larger than shown on the box, they are 4 x 4 tires and are taller and wider than the usual automotive snow tires.
Rob Hall Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 IIRC, MPCs '75 and '76 Road Runners had them.. I don't know if they were reused in other kits later.
Mark Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 MPC only did that one snow tire. They used it in Jeeps, Jeepsters, '69 and '70 Grand Prixs (Grands Prix?), and some of the mid-Seventies Plymouth intermediates as well as the Pacers. Someone mentioned Fireball Modelworks, I would second that opinion, his stuff is excellent and fairly priced too. I tend to think of "kits first", sometimes forgetting the aftermarket stuff.
noname Posted November 7, 2021 Author Posted November 7, 2021 Thanks guys. I have the fire and rescue Amt Chevy van kit that has the same, as the above, Godzilla Jeep kit. They are quite a bit bigger then the regular tires on the van kit. I think this would jack the van up considerably so would likely be radical on a car model. I was hoping for an aftermarket source. I did look on the Fireball Modelworks site but didn't see any. Maybe I'll have another look. There is no search bar so I find you have to just weed through all the products.
Mark Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 The AMT tires in the Chevy van and El Camino kits are not the same as the MPC Jeep/Pacer tires. The MPC tires are smaller, and interchange with their stock automotive tires.
