Zippi Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 (edited) I'm taking a peak (not 100% sure if this is my next project or not yet) at this kit I bought at Wally World here a while back when they had their display in the isle. I like the looks of the Ranchero but hate the stock wheels & tires. I have the wheels & tires out of the AMT 61 Impala SS I'm thinking of using as they seem to fit and the back tires are slicks. I'm also thinking of maybe a light mint color as I saw someones Ford Falcon online that had this color and it looks pretty good. Since Testors enamel's don't have a mint color I bought some gloss white & gloss green thinking I can create my own. I was also doing some trial fitting and the front bumper and the roof in the rear looks not good at all. There's not enough wall there to shave down to tuck the bumper in so not sure there. Any info about the bumper & roof fit would be greatly appreciated. Edited December 7, 2021 by Zippi 1

When you say “theres not enough wall there” ….do you mean the body? Could the bumper itself be shaved to match the contour of the vehicle?

Maybe you could add a bit to the bumper horn? Unfortunately that would mean re-chroming it or painting it.? Edited December 7, 2021 by NOBLNG

ksnow Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 That tire and wheel combo really makes a difference. I like it. Looking forward to seeing it together.

Well....got a lot of cleaning to do as the flash and mold lines are some of the worst I've seen. I'm struggling over a color and I'm hoping next week will bring some good enough weather where I can airbursh the body. I'm going to try the Testors enamel again as it came out so nice on the MPC Modified I just finished.

They have some nice ones…

Right now I'm really liking the way the Testors enamel sprayed out on the 34 Modified I built so I'm just looking at the Testors enamel in the little bottles.
Zippi Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 (edited) I found some hubs that fit and work with the metal axles in the kit so I did another moc up to make sure the wheels & tires still fit before I go any further. They look tight but they do spin. I think it looks fine. Still wondering about the ridge at the rear of the roof. Should that be removed or not??? Edited December 8, 2021 by Zippi 1
Zippi Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 I did some research and it looks like some of the Ranchero's have the ridge on the rear of the roof and some don't. Still not sure if I want to remove it or not.
Zippi Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 There is an optional part for the roof if you want to do a custom build. I was thinking it had to do with that roof panel but it doesn't come into contact with it. Think I'll sand it off. Just doesn't look right to me. 1
ksnow Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 In the two pics, does the white one have the chrome trim around the bed and back window? I will agree that the "flare" on the model looks out of place. Perhaps an overdone drip rail? Spoiler for a camper shell? Tires and wheels still look good. The red pic looks very similar to your mock up.

Looks much better.
NOBLNG Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Wow, I’m behind. I was googling pics so I could respond as to whether to sand the roof ridge off or not.? Too late…but I was going to say do it. I didn’t see the ridge on the pic I posted or on this beautiful unit. Isn’t that colour nice? hint, hint?

Been playing around with engine options. I have a 327 abc that almost fits. Would take much. 1
afx Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 How about a Ford engine in a Ford Falcon Ranchero.
Zippi Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 (edited) Haha.....even the instructions show a chevy engine. Edited December 9, 2021 by Zippi
ksnow Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 My uncle built a Ford hot rod in the early 90's. Everyone told him to just drop in a small block Chevy, he insisted on a Ford motor. After it was done, he got a lot of compliments for sticking with a Ford powerplant.

I had a 37 Ford pickup Street Rod 1:1 with a chevy 302. Ford tough with Chevy stuff.
