What I'm doing here is creating an illusion of a Stovebolt 6 powered gasser. I am using what I have available for raw materials. The '37 engine looks like the '51 engine but in order to make an engine you might see in a gasser it needed the Fisher conversion to be credible. So.....I had to marry them to get what I needed. The transmission was missing from the '51, apparently cut off for some other project that I can't recall. Enter the '37 which had a transmission intact. I'm not an expert on this stuff but in the realm of hot-rodding you might say "anything goes". Did a 1:1 like this ever exist? I dunno. Could it have? ?
alan barton Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 How about "Six in the Head", a play on "Sick in the Head"?

"Joe Six Pack"....."Six in a Row"...."Perverted Six"....."Rough Six"....."Casual Six"...."Unprotected Six" (I can see where this is going ?.)....Take a whack at it, people! customline Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 Got a little bit done the past few days. I've got the engine mounted and drive shaft extended, running boards cut out but not cleaned up yet, started putting the nose together in preparation for lopping it off to build the flip-nose. Not much, but better than nothing ? Also, started some ladder bars....it's all pretty rough at this point. Thanks for tuning in.
customline Posted January 2, 2022 Author Posted January 2, 2022 (edited) Slight update: created tube axle from evergreen, etc- brakes from ZZ Top '33 (?). Aluminum tube in modified wheel backs (Rev. '32 5W ?). Fabbed up ladder bars. Inserted aluminum tube I to rear axle. Modified unknown wheel backs. Mocked up to see stance. ? opinions? To high? I think so. Re-do. ? stitchdup Posted January 2, 2022 Posted January 2, 2022 I like your changes to the roof, much sleeker. How about six appeal for a name?

It's PG. I came up with one our vets would probably like - "Watch My Six"....and on the trunk lid "Thanks for Watching my Six !" As far as the roof goes, I would have liked it a bit less subtle. When I look at it from all angles, it's not as much of an improvement as I wanted. I wanted the profile to match the quarter window arc. Maybe it will look better in finish paint. After I started this thing I was perusing the net and found this (below) awesome thing. Roof problem solved ?g Edited January 2, 2022 by customline 1

customline Posted January 4, 2022 Author Posted January 4, 2022 (edited) OK, new front axle closer to scale, from the AMT 37 chevy using the 39 springs. Need to cut a little clearence for the slicks inside the fender wells. More body work tomorrow to smooth out the rough stuff. thanks for looking. Edited January 4, 2022 by customline Added photo 1
customline Posted January 4, 2022 Author Posted January 4, 2022 Naaahhhhhh, no good.? made a new axle from some more junk around here and this one is the one ?. OK, got the stance good, I'm happy with it and, ultimately, that's what counts ☺️. The axle is more in line with scale though it would be about 2.5 inches diameter in 1:1 for 1:24. A bit heavy but not beyond my ability to imagine welding it up with available material in the garage ....well, use your imagination ? Thanks for looking.

I'd deep six the pipes and close those hood sides.

It has an obvious roof swap and the overall look is just totally new. It's a brave move and the hot rod style exhaust married to a smooth kustom look is mind bending and I would really love to build a replica of it. The '39 Chevy isn't like my fave body style but this guy found a way to make it beautiful.
espo Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 I'm enjoying watching this build but have a question about the engine. The Valve Cover that is from the other AMT kit seems like it is longer than the Head.

The head was cut off the '37 block and the Fisher conversion from the '51 was "installed". There is a bit of overhang but it's the head/block where it can be seen. The actual 1:1 cover is a 2 piece affair so the lifter adjustment could be done without getting oil all over the engine. Pretty cool, huh? Edited January 5, 2022 by customline Added photo, correction
customline Posted January 6, 2022 Author Posted January 6, 2022 Brief update: made room for slicks that were a little too wide. More later tonight. Maybe ?oops too much....measure twice, cut once ?after its painted, it'll be fine?I used .015 sheet but .010 would've been better. There will be a little adjustment on the body or the modification due to the quick and sloppy work. None of it will show (I hope)? It all gets sewed up with thick CA and speed-up juice. The fender component will sit a bit lower on the chassis but after I radius the wheel openings, it should look pretty good. I could add some material to get back to original height but I sorta wanna have it lower. Thanks for your Interest!....and your good humor. ?

customline Posted January 6, 2022 Author Posted January 6, 2022 (edited) A little progress.....loosely mocked up. Fabbed up K-member, finished "tubbing" job. Moving right along ? I still have a lot of body work ahead and need to work out some steering . Time to paint the frame and move the engine along, detail and such. Oh, and make ladder bar anchors. I don't get why my pix get out of order. Just know that they are not ? Edited January 7, 2022 by customline Added content
