Inspired by another member's pro street truck, I decided to give this a try. I've started the tubbing process, but not sure if I'm going with these tubs or some other option. I cut these from an old plastic pill bottle but they seem really soft and not sure how they will react with CA glue. The tires and wheels are from the AMT 66 Nova Pro Street.

Looking good James.  I was looking at the 66 Nova Pro Street chassis I have and I really like those tubs.  If I had to do mine over againg I would be looking at those.  I've got this kit in my stash so I'll be folowing along.

I think I done got in over my head. Got the bed cut out for the big tires and tubs, but looks like I'm going to have to narrow the frame and axle housing to make this work. Not sure if I should use the kit supplied axle and frame or try something else. I will need to mull this over for a while.

I haven't opened this kit up yet but is there any way to cut the frame at the red lines, cut down the middle of the crossmembers at the green line and take out what is needed for the tires, then glue it all back together?  Just a thought since this is all new to me as well.  I have to narrow the axle housing on my 56 project as well.  Here is a link where someone built a dual cab but it shows some mods that were made to the rear section of the frame.  Mabe this will help.  I'm sure someone has done this and can chime in with some pics that will help.

It will need to be cut just forward of that wide crossmember because that is where the axle will glue in. Then the axle will have to be reworked to get it to fit the frame that has been narrowed. I'm sure it can be done, but may be too much for me. But as soon as I finish this Camaro I'm working on I'm going to dive in and see what I can come up with. I'm thinking about trying the complete frame from the 66 Nova kit to see if it will work with the truck body/bed.

Cut it off right above the wide cross piece, then cut it down the middle and took out some. Put it back and checked it, looks like it's ok. Now to get the axle housing and differential to fit.

Nice to see you got it worked out James.

Thanks. It's partly worked out. Still have to get the rear end to fit. Also thinking ahead on what engine I want to use. I was thinking a hemi, got an extra one in the 32 Ford 5 window kit. But then there's the problem of getting it to fit in the chassis. This is going to be a lot of work. I'm going to try not to give up on it.

Hey BlueStringer

you could always scratch build a frame or partial frame? Easiest would be to scratch build back half of frame mate it to the kit chassis? I scratch built a whole frame so I could lower the front end also.

Once you get going on it, it's can get crazy! Stance makes or breaks a prostreet, in my opinion. It will turn out great for ya! Good Luck!

That is some really nice work on those. Did you scratch build the tubs?  Scratch building is way out of my league right now. I just got back into the hobby about 5 months ago. I've never attempted to do anything like I'm trying now, all my builds have been straight OOB. You are correct about the stance, and I'm afraid mine is not going to be low enough. I'm still trying to work that out.

Bluestringer, the tubs are from small spray paint lids from my daughter's hobbies. Darn near the perfect size for the monster prostreet tires (too cool). Can not remember what paint brands she used?? I am a prostreet nut and want more of those myself.

Zippi, I just wing it when it comes to building a chassis from the thousands of photo's on internet. The main thing is the mock up of the stance your after. Inner fenders get tossed and slam it down.

PRO STREET ROCKS!!

Wow Lorne, those are 2 super cool Chevy's.?

They are really cool. Mine will never be that good. Not sure if I should even continue, but I've already messed up the kit, may as well see if I can make something out of it.

Keep at it mate, I think you can manage it. Just decide how you want it, draw it out on paper and use that as a template for the mods. If you break it down into sections you'll find it easier maybe as its just shapes of plastic being glued together. Alternativelly there are 3d printed chassis available too if it doesn't work out.

3d printed chassis....do you have a link to any of these and have you used them before?

Sometimes you gotta walk away for a bit to preserve your sanity.? But don’t think you have to measure up to anyone else’s work. I know I will never be that good either. It’s only a few bucks worth of plastic, so go ahead and mess with it is my motto.?

I haven't used them myself but if it was me I'd buy one and use it to copy in plastic as I'm not sure how well the prints hold up

Not giving up, I'll redneck engineer something out of it. Right now I'm working on a 69 Camaro OOB build. As soon as I'm finished with it I'm going to dig into trying to get something done with this truck. It is fun.

I've got the rear about where I want it. On the front I relocated the spindles a little higher which got it a little lower but not enough. Looks like I will have to cut down the inner fender panels to get the body to sit lower. Don't think I can do anything else to the suspension. I went with the smooth look on the back, no bumper. I cut a strip of styrene to replace it.

Looking good James.  Those big ol meats really make the truck don't they.

Thanks Bob. Yea those tires look mean. I was thinking about putting in a hemi, but have now decided to put the 427 Chevy out of the Chevelle Pro Street in it. Doing some test fitting and there is going to be a lot of frame modification to get it to work. This is turning out to be more than I thought it would be, but I'm going to keep at it and get something built, but it probably will not be pretty.

Same with me James.  I'm just plugging along hoping for the best and expecting the worst.
