Well from my internet sleuthing, this started life as a Lindberg kit, but I find no evidence of it ever being a 2 in 1 kit, so my only conclusion is that Lindberg probably shared the mold for the engine parts tree with another kit.

Thank's for doing the leg work Bill.

Love that color Bob. I see you’re getting accustomed to painting. Great improvement from some of your first posts. And since you’re not a rookie anymore, we will be expecting perfection from her on in.? just kidding!!

I enjoy your posts.

Thank's Rick.  Haha.....oh man, tightening the screws on me already.  I didn't think you left the "Rookie" status until you built something that had that "WOW" factor ?  Still have not achieved that glass look on a paint job.

I wish I could find the instructions for that kit.

Here's another version of the instructions that show it is indeed the left-side manifold to use for a single exhaust setup. This kit was never a 2-in-1 kit, but there was a different version: the 53 Indy Pace Car.

I have the convertible version in the stash. My dad had a 1:1 white '54 convertible that burnt the (you know what) out of side of my leg when I was a little kid.

Thanks for posting this Dave.  I think I'll leave mine with dual exhaust.  It will give that Flatty a few extra hp for Tuesday's on Saturday night.

Here are the sections in my instructions that cover the compete exhaust system.

I found the convertible instructions in the hardtop box( my kits are mixed up a bit) and they show the same dual system.  All three of my kits are Lindberg packaged and the one I'm working on now had only single exhaust. It was the one with the red car on the box. The Lindberg with the black car has duals. So I have a full custom '53 Vic with one pipe out the back. Another re-do for me. And as I recall, fitting the cross-over pipe was trouble.

While we're reminiscing, I remember going to look at a '53 convertible for sale with my dad. The price was around $200 and it was sporting a transplanted 390. When Dad looked under the hood, it was over. He wouldn't let me have anything with that much "potential ". It was a sad day. I think I ended up with another Rambler. He loved Ramblers..... For me. I went through a bunch of cars before I was 18.

I like your story Jim.  My mom always liked the big Chryslers and the Rambler wagons.  My Grandfather Liked the Studebaker's and that was my first car....1957 Golden Hawk.

Consider yourself fortunate, Bob, my father was a very practical man. When he realized that the family car was in peril from me ('65 Impala convertible..... my mother's actually) he found a decent '61 Rambler American wagon (of all things) for $150. My first car! Try driving that to high school, Bob.?  Now, I'd like to have it back - it would be a great gasser ?

Studes were way ahead in styling through the '50s, but thought odd for that time. The Hawk was like nothing else on the road then. Should have kept it!

This is looking good Bob. I love that color. I've never tried the Anita's craft paint but I think I'll get some. I've been dissatisfied with the FolkArt I've been using. I like the Createx that I've tried, but it's so expensive and the craft paint has more color choices.

Haha....it's funny you mentioned driving that to high school.  I use to park my 57 Studebaker 2 blocks away.  Didn't want others to see what I was driving.

What about the FolkArt paint did you not like?  I've only used it  once but it seem to lay down fine.

I laid the front suspension and exhaust system on the chassis to see how the fit is and all is well.  I also cleaned up the white walls and did a trial fit to the tires. The fit is nice.  May paint the white walls a flat white.

My brother was the LAST owner of 5 cars before turned 19. He either blew up the motor or the transmission from beating on them relentlessly.

My 1st car was almost a 56 Buick. My dad declined buying it because he thought parts would be hard to get in 1978. I got a 68 Malibu instead. Unfortunately I totaled it two weeks after I got it.

In '74 I drove a '56 DeSoto that I bought from a friend of a friend for $175.00. It ran well and rode like a dream. It had a little rust in the lower rear quarters but was solid otherwise.  It was a great car....until I was rear-ended at a stop light by a stoner on our way to work. Anyone would have considered it a total. Cops had it towed but after work I retrieved it and drove it home, about 20 miles. The frame was buckled and it rode like it had no springs in back. I sent it to the boneyard and replaced it with a '55 Dodge Coronet 4 door. No cigar.

I have immortalized the Gray Ghost in styrene.  See below. It's a combination of the Moebius '56 Chrysler 300 and a 4 door promo I bought on ebay for $70.00. IMG_0049.jpg.b5fdfbd8073e8200ccea4f44c1008adb.jpgIMG_0050.jpg.3a860e9e708feebb3c3a03a600627a70.jpgIMG_0054.thumb.jpg.8f1362b762c38e771601c7fed996f0a8.jpgIMG_0051.thumb.jpg.bc8285cc57e363d3d871a54491434f8c.jpgIMG_0055.jpg.e240ea69be6234ff75e0bc7c79ad0e84.jpg

It just seems to not cover well. I can still see primer in high spots even after several coats. Could be I'm thinning it too much.

Could be to thin I guess. I thin mine 50/50.  I always have a paper towel that I test spray before I start shooting a body.  On my Paasche that's about half way open with my 3.0mm tip.

I'm getting ready to put the decals on the hub caps.  I noticed it says Firestone on the whitewalls.  Anybody every try to highlight the letters?  How would one go about that???
