Bills72sj Posted April 10, 2022 Author Posted April 10, 2022 Worked on back dating the front bumper/grille to a 74. Carved out the vertical grilles while keeping the frame. Drilled out and added amber turn signals. Made upper grilles from a 69 Olds donor grille. Made lower grille frame from evergreen stock. Made lower grilles from incorrect 71 Charger pieces that come in a Dukes of Hazzard Charger. Masked and painted rub strip with MM Black Chrome Trim. The promo chrome got a little abused with all the handling but it is presentable.
Bills72sj Posted April 24, 2022 Author Posted April 24, 2022 Been working on this without updating. Spliced chassis and interior painted. Gave the dash some semblance of detail with decals from the parts box. 1

Bills72sj Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 I found a pic from the web of the louvers in the hood and printed it out. I took some Evergreen C channel made the stairstep insert. After bravely cutting a hole in the hood, I have a pretty decent replication of the louvers. 1
Bainford Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Nice work, Bill. I have a '73 442 project coming up (eventually), to be built from the JoHan '75 Cutlass, and have pondered how to do the hood vents. Your method looks good.

Trevor, it actually was not that difficult. I simply shaved one lip from the C channel and the steps came out perfect. My promo hood was so thick that the sides of the hole did not even need any additional material to enclose the low points on the sides.
Bills72sj Posted May 1, 2022 Author Posted May 1, 2022 (edited) In order to do the faux Landau strip, I need to widen the B pillars. I cut them out and added new ones in. I also fabbed the pieces that go below the tail lights. They were originally just incorrect chrome nubs molded in with the rear bumper. I also need to fab a cowl and firewall as promo bodies don't come with them. Edited May 1, 2022 by Bills72sj
Bills72sj Posted May 8, 2022 Author Posted May 8, 2022 (edited) Got all the body mods done and painted in decanted Testors white enamel awhile back. Masked and painted the landau bar. Looks much better than just a decal would. Next step BMF. Edited November 14, 2022 by Bills72sj spelling
Bills72sj Posted May 13, 2022 Author Posted May 13, 2022 Made a bit more progress. Added some barely sticking BMF and reclearcoated the decals in anticipation of application.
Sam I Am Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 Looking sharp Bill. The modifications and scratch building are very well done.

Bills72sj Posted May 16, 2022 Author Posted May 16, 2022 (edited) Just a teaser of the finished hood with decals and clearcoat. It turns out the decal set center stripes are a bit long both for the hood and the trunk. A little magic with some scissors took care of it. The body has to have two rounds of decals because the black borders around the side stripes are separate from the gold portion of the side stripes. Ditto with the door lettering and winged logo. Bills72sj Posted May 19, 2022 Author Posted May 19, 2022 Pulled off a near miracle last night. Applied two long skinny side stripe decals over previously applied long skinny decals. No rips, no wrinkles and near perfect alignment. I am finally over the hump with this one. Now on to the parts box engine for what started out as a promo. ? 1
