Gramps46 Posted April 22, 2022 Author Posted April 22, 2022 I have had a blast going through my display cabinet dedicated to Le Mans racers. I just saw this Dino - Ferrari V6 from 1965. The kit was a Hasegawa that I added Cox wheels and tires to it. If I am not mistaken, you could build the kit either as a spyder or a coupe. Nothing spectacular but kind of cute. 1
1959scudetto Posted April 22, 2022 Posted April 22, 2022 Very nice Dino 166 P, Gary - you have a lot of treasures at home - I didn't even know such model existed.
Gramps46 Posted April 22, 2022 Author Posted April 22, 2022 Stepping back in time a bit we have a 1928 Stutz DV Black Hawk driven by Brisson and Bloch. The model is by Danbury Mint and has been modified to match the configuration at Le Mans.

I really debated whether to post this picture or not since some of the models are in such poor shape and one of them I can not identify what it is supposed to be. But here goes anyway since the objective so to show what could have been available in the olden days. I finally figured out what #32 in the back row is supposed to be. It was meant to be the 1957 718 RSK of Maglioli and Barth but by using a Revell RS60 body was pretty far off. Like I said, confession is good for the soul. Edited April 23, 2022 by Gramps46 2

Gramps46 Posted April 25, 2022 Author Posted April 25, 2022 Inspired by Richard B. and Maysula with their blower Bentleys I pulled this Franklin Mint version off the shelf and made a few modifications to match 1930 race photos. Most notably I added black roundels and white numerals and photographically blanked out the Union Jacks. 1

But Best Balsa kits are very expensive.

The thing that I liked most is the painting of the bodywork; excellent shade of green and perfect degree of gloss for a car of that era. What paint did you use? Did you clear above the decals? (from the photos I can not understand it). Thanks in advance and congratulations on the conversion. Hello, Giovanni La Rosa

Old racecars was never that glossy as today, thats right. I used Tamiya primer then Tamiya TS 9 British green and then Tamiyas clear on spraycans. I stopped using clear over decals a long time ago,you may ruin the decals if the clear is to hot, I put the decals in place after the clear is on. Then I mostly use Johnsons floorpolish, I use a wide brush and seals the decals with it. Works very well I think. I really like that the engine is so visible with that special bodywork ? Thomas
