89AKurt Posted July 9, 2022 Author Posted July 9, 2022 Sorry, thought of something else, tow hooks. Easy to make, drill the hole first with at least 2 MM of plastic all around, then sand down around the outside to get the delicate size, airbrushed red. Every time I post pictures, I see blemishes that should get fixed.
capricorn71 Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Hello, I found this thread by chance and I can imagine how many hours and work went into this kit.. I built this model a few years ago. The only modification/ addition I made is the soft top cover. Your built is amazing! Greetings from Germany Erich 1

Greetings from Germany Erich [...] I see you are relatively new to the forum, welcome! You did a fine job on yours, I like the tonneau cover, that should have been a part. Thank you for posting those pictures. I'm now in the can't-leave-well-enough-alone stage, worse than normal. I cut down the sun visors, but still hits the steering wheel. I'm cringing over the top of the windshield frame, am having thoughts of cutting off the whole windshield and making a Porsche Speedster style. Instead of such a drastic modification after the paint is done, I'm going to finish the hardtop. I didn't find many pictures of the hardtop, and noticed something different between these two cars. The grey one, looks like they set the top on the car and didn't clamp it down? Look how flush the white one sits on the car. Also the top window trim difference. I don't care to become an expert on these cars, since I don't own a real one, so let's start on what bugged me about this part..... The profile behind the drip rail, it looks squashed in. It shows up from above, can't find pictures from this angle, but here you can see it looks a little fatter in that area. Applied some Tamiya epoxy putty, using water and the steel handle to roll it out. I expect to need some of the regular putty to flush out. If this is enough to correct it, then I'll work on reducing the side window trim. Then decide what color, or update it with carbon-fiber decal to see if I can work with those decals, and if not I'm getting rid of some kits such as the Setso Elemento and Porsche GT1 with full c-f decal set!
David G. Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Impressive work from start to finish! Or nearly finished, as the case may be. I love the vanity plate on the front too. David G. 1

Erich inspired me to make the tonneau cover, used wine bottle foil. It will be glued to the top after painting. Second application of Tamiya putty, I was jonesing to paint it tonight, but *had to* fiddle with it. Window opening was sanded to thin the drip rail profile.

Maybe that's why my eye was drawn to the one on yours. Kurt, everything you've done with this build goes way above and beyond anything that the kit designers could have ever imagined. To me, it certainly looks like it's been worth the effort. But in the end, if you're pleased with it, then it's worth the effort. David G. David G. 1

[...] ? Thank you, that's one reason I picked this for a project. Progressed on painting the top, decided to stay with blue, will do carbon-fiber on the inside. Happy enough with the profile correction. To avoid rushing that even more, made the radar detector. Instead of doing another Valentine like my Subaru, searched online for the most popular choice nowadays, and something relatively easy in shape. Uniden R3 Laser/Radar Detector, couldn't find dimensions other than the box it comes in, so eyeballed the size. Here are the tools used, the Dremel not included was used to cut the wire. Cordless drill used to size the diameter of the black sprue, for the suction cup. One of the few things brush painted. Thought I better add the wire! And no I wasn't going to paint the display, it is OFF! ? I better not handle the top until tomorrow, the Splash paint does cure quick, it's been in the pickup cab, but that's 3 coats. Going to risk wet-sanding and polishing (I kind of hate doing this process, invites screw ups), and then Bare-Metal foil.
89AKurt Posted July 18, 2022 Author Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) Now I am finished! I need to quit touching this!!!!!! ? Didn't bother taking pictures of the paint process for the top, same as the car. Carbon-fiber on the inside of the top. No way am I going to do a modern car body with decals, I'm always impressed with guys who can do a good job. This particular sheet tended to break apart, but at least it conformed to shape. I don't see that Scale Motorsport decal solution works, still prefer Solvaset. The aluminum tabs are to keep the window in place when I glue it. Used Testors canopy glue not only for the window, but also the tonneau cover. Gotta do what I could to keep the top down for the glue to set, and the nice thing about using this glue, can clean off the body any excess. Though the window has huge gaps, not going to obsess about it. I wet-sanded and polished the top. Glad I corrected the shape of the roof. Added bug splats, so it is now officially done. But that fender spear trim is bugging me..... Edited July 18, 2022 by 89AKurt
David G. Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Nice wrap-up! Such a sexy body design, the paint and details you've added have certainly done it justice. David G. 1
Funkychiken Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Kurt, this is an amazing build, it's going to be a killer model! 1

I built a Revell 1960 Corvette with a multiple piece body and reinforced the seams on the inside with half round styrene and Testors glue. I have three of those Revell 60 Vette kits which are unassembled. I'm thinking of doing a pro-street with one kit and a resto-mode or pro-touring version with another. I also have an 4th unfinished Revell 60 Vette kit which I started over 30 years ago and put aside. What a great build and fantastic thread.... Edited August 11, 2022 by Kenmojr 1

You saying Revell did multiple piece body Corvette kits? There are so many other kits with one piece bodies, that I would think those never get built. Yea, like the emblems I removed, the door handles were like a deep scratch in the mold. ?
