I tend to use different colors depending on the final color I'm going for. Light colors get white, medium colors get gray, reds and oranges get red oxide, black gets black primer. I would hit some spare parts with white primer and see if or how bad the orange bleeds through. If you're going with a very light color some people have had success with a coat of silver under their primer.

Mr. Base white is an option too.  It's a primer that's good for covering colored plastic.  It's different than there regular primer.

Primer color most often depends on the top coat color choice. One  bit of advice; Don't bother using a pink primer to make a red top coat "pop". Unless the red is translucent it makes NO difference at all. I know this because I've tried it.

prime it Gray to seal in the Orange, then come back with a White primer over that, then u can paint it any color u wish with out the orange beading thru.

LOL, me too. Tamiya got me on that one.

Duplicolor 1699 gray primer sealer - it takes a good coat of a sealer to block the orange, especially if it's under alight color top coat.

This Cougar was molded in orange. I used silver as the initial primer coat, and then followed up with regular primer (either Tamiya White or Gray - I have a feeling it was probably White).

The final color covered just fine with no trace of orange anywhere!

Thanks,

Bart
