Livelihood used to mean something but now my wife and I spend over $300/week in groceries alone.

Alone, I spend about $75 a week on groceries to eat very well, and that's about a 50% increase from two years ago.

“Ago” is a tough word with which to begin a sentence unless you do something cheesy, like putting it between quotations.
