Years of education don't seem to be doing much in the way of turning out generally competent, capable, thinking graduates who can tell the time, figure a tip, or find their way across town without a handheld substitute brain and the requisite app.

Seems like "one world" government would be a pretty good idea on first thought: improved overall efficiency, no wars, etc., but like a lot of "better ideas" it won't work when the worst aspects of human nature (at our average state of philosophical and intellectual development) are in play.
