We have been asked to not do anything that uses excessive amounts of power from 4-9 PM. Laundry, dishwasher, unnecessary lights, etc. And yes, charging cars. I have noticed more and more Tesla around over the last +/- five years; a handful of Volts and Leafs [sic] as well. The Tesla "Drinking Posts" (as I call them) are always brimming with vehicles being recharged; and, in all fairness, I typically see them between 10:00 - 15:00, and often at a fuel station near Pechanga Casino (Pechanga Parkway/Pala Road & SR 79-S/Temecula Expressway).

The issue is going to be, that by 2035, when the de facto compulsory decision will be to "go electric" or take a literal hike. Suddenly, the already overloaded grid is going to be taxed even more (no pun intended); those "Flex Alerts" hours will expand to, say, the hours between 08:00 - 22:00. Fourteen delightful hours of "Don't cook, don't turn on any lighting, don't turn on the A/C-Heater -- depending upon the season --, don't wash clothing nor dishes, etc., etc."
Basically, don't attempt to live a normal life, in order for those +/- 85,000$ electric vehicles to get charged up, and that you Proletarians can walk, bike, or take (unreliable) public transportation to work, etc.

Looks like a certain "braintrust" will have to fire up the disused nuclear powerplants in order to supplant the power grid...
... and hope for little to no seismic activities that'll be akin to Fukushima 2011.

But since gasoline is free, filling the tank isn't a choice you have to make, or course.

A quick overview of California's energy policy, including proposed plants under review for future construction, those few already under construction, and the recent energy bill passed into law, indicate Cali is in no way prepared, nor will it be, to cope with the coming mandated-electric-vehicle recharging loads.

Logic by the numbers:

1) The EU and Britain are pushing for people to buy electric vehicles.

2) Energy and food costs are skyrocketing, so there's a very real chance people will have to choose between food and heating their homes.

3) That leaves them no money to purchase electric vehicles.

4) The cost of fuel for existing ICE vehicles wasn't even a part of my original assertion, and is totally irrelevant.

EDIT: 5) BUT, as you chose to try to make it a part of the discussion here, if a household can't afford fuel for an existing ICE vehicle, it sure as hello can't afford to buy a new EV.

Many of the out-of-touch celebrities (redundant on my part) who're making asinine statements such as, "I own an electric vehicle, so I don't care if gas [ no mention of the costlier diesel fuel ] is ten dollars a gallon!".
Well, that's good for you, virtue signalling twit. Just wait until the Per-Miles-Travelled taxes hit! Since the loss of revenue sources from gasoline and, to a greater extent, diesel, will disappear almost entirely, then new taxes will have to be implemented to make up for losses of said revenues. 

I'm also terribly worried about the looming vehicle wrecks and crashes of those E.V.'s. Talk about deadly explosions and gaseous vapour fires to be extinguished! Surely, those "teething problems" will subside with time, but still present a real danger in the meantime.
