Queen Elizabeth II, the monarch of the United Kingdom and head of the Commonwealth, has died at age 96, Buckingham Palace announced.

The queen died on Thursday as members of her immediate family rushed to be by her side, including her son and heir, Prince Charles.

She was an amazing person and hard to believe anyone could keep her pace right to the end. I was reading an article about her life and coming to power online this afternoon.

I was watching an episode of I Love Lucy where they were in England and she wanted to see the queen. I just realised, they were referencing the same woman!

70 years is a long reign. Three generations and many parts of history. She experienced a lot!

Can't even comprehend what GB is like with a King! As far back as I can remember, it's always been "the Queen".

I am sad of her passing. She worked on jeeps in wwll.  She believed in service and was a spiritual woman and was blessed with 96 years.

Agreed. How about the fact that she served in WWII as a truck driver and mechanic. Crazy stats. She did a lot of things as Queen that were unpopular with a lot of people in G.B. but she was a pretty amazing person.

I dunno'; I often think of how glad I am that I was not born in a country where someone else is (undeniably IS) better than I -- by law. "I'm a natural sovereign, sir, a born American" Mark Twain

As an American, I'm happy that some can distinguish themselves through study, hard work, and other laudable methods, not be born to distinction.  Granted Liz did a lot for England (Irish and Scots may not agree, to say nothing of former colonies, commonwealth, dominions, and all that) but at least we don't pay our hard-earned into a government that lets one family have the top tier.  A Brit friend heard my opinion a few years ago, and said "Well, but isn't it nice that the poor people have someone to admire..." and then she thought about it and said 'But that's why my kids want to be Americans, I guess."  I guess so!  That 1776 stuff was for a reason, in my book, and when George Washington was offered a crown, he wondered why we'd suffered through that under-dog war! From colony to republic.

No to hereditary nobility and royalty, thanks!  Old Wick ( the Vet), 77 & counting...

but thats not true, you still have family names that carry more clout than they maybe deserve, simply due to who their relatives are. I'm sure we can all think of some of them whether its film stars or media, how many of them earned their status?

That's not hereditary privilege; not aristocracy based on family only -- and I think that you know what I mean, huh?  Just sayin'  Wick
