Whosurdaddy209 Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 That stance is mean. Is the paint metallic? It looks similar to the 66 corvette mosport green. 1
Slotto Posted November 22, 2022 Author Posted November 22, 2022 Yep, yep. It's a metallic fingernail polish.

Slotto Posted April 25, 2023 Author Posted April 25, 2023 I really liked the green but I wasn't happy with the finish. I couldn't get the right mix and there was some streaks. I ended up stripping it 4 times. Frustrated, I changed colors. To me, this acrylic paint lays down so nice with a 2:1 mix with Isopropyl. The brand is Deco Art Extreme Sheen. The color is Metallic Ruby. I added some gloss black for that black cherry look. Stay Tuned

All too often, I believe that people over think their custom color combinations and often wind up with some heinous combination that looks like it belongs in a jar of jaw breakers rather than their car. I guess I’m just old fashioned, but bright and gaudy has never been much of a fashion statement to me. ? Steve 1

I always thought it was kind of cool on a '70 Challenger or 'Cuda, but once it started showing up on everything from a '55 Chevy to your model-T example, it was over for me. Old cars have a uniqueness in style that doesn't require a "look at me" paint job. Whenever I come across pictures of an antique or classic car model in a variation of this color, I instantly pass it by, no matter how well it's done. It's an unmitigated offense to my eyes! ? Ace-Garageguy Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 I like the rose metallic, but I really liked the green. The AMT lacquer line (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) had a very similar color. Really like this body style too, particularly when it's done as a period NASCAR piece. 1

I loved that green but I mixed the nail polish with acetone instead of lacquer thinner and the tip of my airbrush dried up before I could finish the car. I was lucky painting an HO scale slot car with it and I thought I could get away with a bigger car but nope. I was so disappointed. I'm new to airbrushing but am learning as I go. I've had a lot of luck with acrylics so far but I may go after that medium again in the future.
Bainford Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 The new paint looks great. Sits nice, too. What did you strip the nail polish with? 1

rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 In 1964 my next door neighbor had one of these Marauders. Checking out the cool fender emblems showing that the car has the big 390 or 427.
Slotto Posted April 28, 2023 Author Posted April 28, 2023 Wet Sanded down the orange peel that the clear left behind with 1500 then 3000 then a couple times with the polish. Then added some BMF. Running low, I placed an order at the local hobby shop. For the emblems, I added the foil prior to painting the body then after the paint hardened I scrubbed the emblems with a stiff q-tip loaded with alcohol then applied the clear. 2 other bodies waiting patiently as I work on this one. These are the chemicals I used on these 3 bodies. 1
Sam I Am Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 Love the rose. I did one in pink a couple months ago. First time I ever tried the big wheel look. They really fit this car well. Glad mine did not have the warping issue.
Slotto Posted May 16, 2023 Author Posted May 16, 2023 All of the bright work is done except for the drip rails. Still have to install the engine and hook up the heater hoses. Lots of miscellaneous things to tend to. 2
customline Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 I'm a big fan of the full size Ford and Merc body styles and have avoided these kit because of the screw bottom all-in-one chassis, curbside platform. Am I being too snobby? I'm beginning to think so. ? it's actually kind of nostalgic ?. Those annuals were a buck fifty, remember? Anyway, what flavor BMF did you use and how did you find the quality? I still have some of the really old, good stuff ("new improved") that I save for the critical work. The "ultra bright chrome" that I acquired a few years back really sucks so I use it for interiors and such (it's difficult to handle because it rolls up into a useless spiral- it's just too thin.) If it's good now, I need to get some.
Slotto Posted May 17, 2023 Author Posted May 17, 2023 This is the Ultra Bright Chrome flavor and yes, it curls up. It's a brand new sheet. I've never used any that didn't. I even tried making my own with super thin tin foil and wallpaper sizing.

The "ultra bright" must be handled very carefully and, for me, it's difficult (I'm old and impatient ?.) The Merc really looks great, Steve.? Edited May 17, 2023 by customline 1
Slotto Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 Shes finally done and Under glass! Thanks for playing along

Slotto Posted May 26, 2023 Author Posted May 26, 2023 I'm new to polishing and I'm working with what I got but yes, Novus2 then McGuire's is what I did. There was a guy at last months meeting that used a ceramic coating last. His finish was amazing

Anything with a wax or silicone ingredient could be a problem for any subsequent touch-up that my be necessary.
