JollySipper Posted October 19, 2022 Author Posted October 19, 2022 I've got a bit of a surprise in store for you guys as far as the paint job goes, if I'm able to pull it off...... It involves a gold basecoat, though!
JollySipper Posted October 20, 2022 Author Posted October 20, 2022 I spent this evening masking what I want to stay gold. Looking at it now, I should redo the doors........ 2
Oldcarfan27 Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 (edited) Panel job with fogging? Ala, Larry Watson? Edited October 20, 2022 by Oldcarfan27
JollySipper Posted October 20, 2022 Author Posted October 20, 2022 (edited) Watson was the man........ There won't be any fogging, though, as I'm doing all this with rattle cans. Really should invest in an airbrush at some point...... Edited October 20, 2022 by JollySipper
JollySipper Posted October 21, 2022 Author Posted October 21, 2022 So, here's how it looks! The finish is all "blushed" because I haven't cleared it yet. It's not perfect by any means...... I screwed up on the doors. I may have to strip them and redo. 3
slusher Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Very nice TJ looking forward to seeing it cleared!
JollySipper Posted October 22, 2022 Author Posted October 22, 2022 Thanks, Carl man...... but It looks like I may just have to paint this in a solid color. I can't get the doors to come out right!
ea0863 Posted October 22, 2022 Posted October 22, 2022 Wow, if this is a "mild custom", I have got to check out your wilder builds!

Yea, this one is a little far out to be a 'mild' kustom! Usually mild to me means without a bunch of body work (chopping, sectioning, and such....) Here's some more builds, I tag my finished models to have them all in one place......... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/tags/jollysipper/

You really have an eye for complementing colors to suit body shapes, and the stance you get on your vehicles seems spot on. 1
JollySipper Posted October 26, 2022 Author Posted October 26, 2022 We're back in primer, guys! I really like DupliColor's 'filler' primer in the large can....... It dries solid and sands very smooth.
JollySipper Posted November 13, 2022 Author Posted November 13, 2022 Hey, fellas..... Just wanted you to know that I'm still working on this! It's been either too windy, or raining lately, so I can't do much in the way of painting.... I did get the engine together. It's a pretty good representation of a Y-block with only the starter, oil filter, and fuel pump molded in...... 3
JollySipper Posted November 17, 2022 Author Posted November 17, 2022 Paint and clear happened today! I'll need to get some outside pics for you guys. The clear I use takes a couple days for the cloudiness to clear up. Thanks for lookin, and tell me what you think! 3
JollySipper Posted November 18, 2022 Author Posted November 18, 2022 Thanks, fellas! This is with just one coat of DupliColor 1K high gloss clear......... It dries slow and you have to put it on kinda heavy, but you can use it over any paint......

JollySipper Posted December 21, 2022 Author Posted December 21, 2022 It's not very pretty, but the foil work is done! I will still put the strips down the roof at a later time..... 3
slusher Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Very sharp paint and foil, TJ excellent color choice!
