I threw this together as a possible contender for the ohv class. '39 ford with a blown nail head. Mostly box stock other than the bomber seats, white walls and narrow slicks

Don Montgomery was mentioned in several posts in this thread. In 1953 and 53 he competed at the dry lakes in a Cord. In 52 it was powered by a Buick Straight and in 53 by a GMC 6.  Does anyone have any knowledge about this  car? Was it converted to rear wheel driver or did it use the Cord's front wheel drive system. JIM

Thanks for the link Charles. As I suspected the Cord had been converted to RWD.  I have a resin Cord sedan body. I wonder if anyone offers a 292 Jimmy with a Howard head, either resin or 3D.  JIM

The Howard head (built by Howard Johansen) is an improvement on a Horning/Fisher aluminum head, having 45 degree intake ports.

The AMT '51 Chevy Bel Air hardtop  (31923 is the one I'm looking at) has a decent representation of a Horning/Fisher head, and by adjusting the port angles, you can come up with a reasonable representation of a Howard head (I'd suggest researching the heads and the car you want to model thoroughly first).

The 292 Jimmy, though very similar visually, is a little larger than the Chevy stovebolt inline sixes...but nobody but the most pedantic rivet counter will notice the difference in 1/25 scale.

I was thinking VCG Resins might be an option, I have no idea how close the 250 is to the 292...unfortunately he just has a 3 carb Stromberg induction. The 6 carb intake he has I'd for the Ford 240/300.

Decided to build a flathead v8 as well. I found a '34 ford kit at an antique store for under 4 bucks, aside from a few pieces being painted it was complete. The engine is from a different revell kit, the heads and intake from the parts box, home made headers. The body is a jimmy flinstone 34 ford i had intended for a different project but didn't use. An iceman quick change rear, the rear cross member and buggy spring are from a 29 ford donor kit.

Got this one finished this morning. The frame frame and wheels are from a lindberg '34 ford pickup. Used the optional lowering front axel. The rear axel is an iceman quick-change. I used the buggy spring and rear frame cross member from a revell '29 ford ratrod kit. The engine is a parts box special, wired up with "parts by parks" oil filter. The headers are solder wire. Scratch built interior tub, the door panels are made from a t-bucket tub, seats from the 29 ford rat rod kit, 34 pickup dash, and a '39 ford steering wheel. Tear drop tail-lights, '34 ford truck grill and headlights, moon tank, jimmy flinstone body

Yes, I apologize. I haven't stayed on top of this like I should have and I notice without a presence, interest died off fast.

Unfortunately, family issues have kept me occupied and I haven't been here or built in awhile. I'm hoping things settle down. Though the holidays will be rough.

I don't know if I should just open this thread to California Drags builds as an ongoing build or just give up on it.

Again, I'm sorry for letting it languish.

I had a lot of fun with this and was already thinking about another build for this coming year, I certainly wouldn't mind running this back again. I do think the California Drags gives people more options.

When is this build deadline? The thread started with Dec 8/9 but I do not recall that being set/final, but I got sidelined by needing info from the TROG organizers, but they never responded, and no one else knew so I worked some other projects while waiting. I am back on this and should not have many more sessions.

Originally the 8/9th. How about the end of the year? Tbh, Memorial Day my wife lost her youngest son to an OD. Our life was getting back in balance a bit and then this morning she found out her father died last night in his sleep.

I honestly have no idea what will happen or how much I'll be here or building these next few months.

I hope to see some more finished for this build.

First as last, I'm sorry for not being able to finish but it has been a really hard year, I have really had enough dead lines in life and in a few months I will stop working in its current form and then there will be both time and power for model building. My coupe will also get a Shop Truck as support. Maybe I should convert my pictures to a WIP thread. Many thanks for all the kind comments, both cars will be ready but first the work life must be finished.
