DougS Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 I just acquired an AMT 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible. I noticed on the underside there is all kinds of information molded in. Like type of antifreeze, lubrication frequency, special coatings, etc. Is this something that was common practice around this time? I started building models a few years after this and have never seen this before on anything.

For some reason, it was also included in the AMT '62 Ford kit. At least that was what was in mine. Steve Edited November 20, 2022 by StevenGuthmiller 1
Bainford Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 My “64 Galaxie Millennium Edition has it too.

DougS Posted November 20, 2022 Author Posted November 20, 2022 Steve, that's a great looking model! You really put my attempts to shame.?
Joe Nunes Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 The reason for the lettering showing up on the early kits is that the kits were a "next step" marketing decision for former promo assembled model cars that dealers passed out to buyers; the business, like AMT, just packaged the unassembled plastic parts into boxes with cool looking box art, sent them off to the hobby shops and such, and we youngsters were hooked into doing the assembly work ourselves. And we "oldsters" are still "hooked"! ? Joe 1
