V8tiger Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 I did this about a year ago when I first started to get back into models... pretty much from scratch... 3
Steamboat Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 That's cool. I bet it was fun to drive, but not to change spark plugs!
M W Elky Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 This is the ultimate in cool ? did you use the amt body with a severe chop , and where did the decals come from?
papajohn97 Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Great job recreating one of the more creative drag machines from my childhood. I recall AMT offered an 1/25 Allison among their boxed accessories when I was a kid (60’s), was it ever re-popped or did you have to pull your engine out of that Model King “Allison Wonderland” T-Bird kit for this build?
V8tiger Posted April 16, 2023 Author Posted April 16, 2023 Thank you guys for the comments... Yes I did use the AMT body and chopped it. As for the Allison I bought if i remember right I think I bought just the engine on ebay. .. It was all chrome and I had to de-chrome it except for the valve covers.... If I had to do it again I'm sure I could improve on the chop. I'm a year better than where I was when I built it, hopefully..... again thanks for the kind words....
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 (edited) Way cool. I well remember that crazy thing. Nice job. Edited April 16, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy

Just for everybody's information, the AMT parts-pack Allison engine, sold as a stand-alone kit originally, was indeed repopped and boxed with several other parts-pack trees over the years. Scott Colmer Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 Great model of one of my favorite cars from one of my favorite builders. You really captured to look of the car. I believe there is tribute 1:1 version out there now. Your recreation is a very close match. I'm also interested in source of the decals. I think the original body is in Garlits' museum. It was a real thrill in the 90's when I saw it going down a Sacramento freeway upside-down on the back of a flatbed. Guess it was headed to Florida. Scott
stavanzer Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Big Al, was the name of the car. A buddy of mine saw it once, in SoCal. Said it was unbelievably;y loud!
Bainford Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Cool build! I'm glad to see a replica of this wild thing in scale. Nicely done. Like many of the others, I was blown away as a kid when I saw a photo of this thing in Hot Rod. At the time I wasn't obvious to me that the driver looked out over the top, and I couldn't imagine how anyone could see out of the thing.
