Len Woodruff Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 Here are some pics of my Bill Stroppe Mercury Stock Car. 8
Rattlecan Dan Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 Absolutely Marvelous build! I'd give anything to be able to be that meticulous and diligent with a build. Thanks for sharing, and showing it IS possible. 2
Phildaupho Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 Beautiful model of one of my favorite race cars. I am pretty sure Parnelli Jones raced a sister car at Pikes Peak back in the day. At the 2003 Monterey Historics Parnelli drove a Stroppe Mercury for a parade lap next to another favorite stock car driven by Dan Gurney. It was supposed to be a parade lap but they kind of got into it in the last corner and got a bit sideways. It was exciting to see. 1
Zippi Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 Love the old school stock cars. Nice detail work on the business end. Great looking model. 1
papajohn97 Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 (edited) Incredible build! How did you do that chassis? If not scratch-built, what kit(s) did you bash it from? I picked up this AMT Merc kit last year at a swap-meet and it comes with a bare-bones one-piece promo chassis if I recall. The chassis frame looks like a ‘60 Starliner but the stamped sheet metal bottom pan looks like a different kit? Edited May 2, 2023 by papajohn97 Spelling, added content 1
Ulbo Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 Oh Man!!! That is so perfect? Clean built with super details and nice from every angle!!! Like the old NASCAR... you nailed it??? 1
1959 Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 Wow, really nice build! I have thought of building either 63-64 Galaxie or this 64 Mercury in a similar way. This inspires! 1

I did have to flaten the rear foot wells to clear the exhaust. 1
CA Whitecloud Posted January 11 Posted January 11 (edited) Hi Len, fabulous build. I'm just starting the AMT 1294/12 kit. I don't know any history of the original, but I'm digging the color scheme. Not that I could ever get close to this level of detail, I would like to ask what kit you started with. You mentioned the AMT Ford chassis. Does that include the the suspension and exhaust? My kit does not have the side protruding pipes (way cool). And I love the detail on the steelie wheels. I would welcome any tips you can offer. Thanks, Cal Edited January 11 by CA Whitecloud

It had the correct chassis, suspension, headers, engine & transmission. The exhaust dups were made from aluminum tubing. Let me know any questions you have as your build progesses. 1
