DRIPTROIT 71
This is the second in my Carolina fleet. I started this a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been doing a little work on the cab. It will have a 8v-71. I was going to put spoke wheels on it, but I have a set of Clint Freeman D hole Budds that I am going to put on it. I have a total of 4 Carolina trucks planned, The Autocar that is finished, this WT9000, a B61 Mack and an F8000 Ford. This is the start.

Without doing major surgery, I tweaked the cab just a bit, and I think that it helped. The front is too long compared to the sides. I took 2 scale inches off of the front. The curve over the wheel goes too far back. I moved it forward some. The lower front section of the cab corners was too square and I rounded them off some. The lights need to be recessed some as well. I’m not a professional, but I think that it helped some. We will see when it is finished. vincen47
This will be another good project. I’ll enjoy watching it come together. Do you plan to open the grille? I totally understand if it’s not feasible.

If I were to, I would totally remake the grille and I don’t think that I want to tackle that right now.

chuckyr
If you wanted to, you could use the grille and surround from the AMT Ford 8000 kit. The W shares many parts with that model. Drill out the lights in the cabover and add the light bezels from the AMT kit. Use the grille from the kit. The battery box, air tank under the battery box and fuel tanks are common. You mean the AMT LN or LNT 8000 conventional? I'm wondering if anyone has effectively sliced that surround area off the front of the hood to use for a cabover ... leafsprings
This photo shows the commonality in styling between the L and W series. Grills and bumpers in particular. Note L series below is a full hood, the AMT kit was a short hood LN version. Edited May 20, 2023 by leafsprings

Looking forward to seeing this build. Here is the only side shot I could find in a brochure.

The Louisville has 6 vertical bars and the W only has 3. The Louisville has 9 horizontal bars counting the top and bottom and the W only has 8. Repstock
Louisville grille and surround are not the same parts from Louisville to W. They do not interchange on the real trucks. The number of openings on the grille are not the same. The dimensions are also not the same. However, if you did swap one for the other, I doubt too many people would notice. Actually, never mind. I see someone else has brought this up. Edited May 20, 2023 by Repstock

Tom, you are definitely the authority when it comes to the W series. Thanks for the input. I still want your W cab by the way. 😀
