Chuckyg1 Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Finished this up yesterday. Nice kit, went together without a problem. I did had a few cosmetic issues though. Despite my best efforts, the hood and deck stripes ended up being " blotchy" any suggestions on how to avoid this in the future would be welcome. I also had problems with the side stripes, couldn't get them to fit right, but they look ok. After appling the center cap decals, they disappeared, so I painted them black. The engine color is probably incorrect. It might be blue. Generally though, it was a fun build and will look fine on the shelf. Comments welcome, thanks for looking. 5
espo Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Great looking color combination and finish. As for the blotchy hood stripes, the white decals have a hard time covering any darker paint color it seems. Try a second set of decals and see if that helps. Hard to tell in your pictures that there is even a problem.
Katsusauce Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 (edited) As an avid fan of Oldsmobiles, if you're building a 442, the motor should be a light metallic blue, and the front fender wells should be red. But yes, a very nice build indeed! I know those side body stripes a very tricky to apply and position, you did a great job. Overall, great box stock build. ? Edited July 2, 2023 by Katsusauce

Was the blue block color exclusive to the Cutlass/442 for this year, or was it across the line?

If memory serves me right, the 69-72 442's were the blue motors while the Cutlass, Cutlass Supreme were the gold motors. I could be wrong, and would be open to corrections. ?
