JC...those engine parts look sooo good.  What did you use for a base coat and wash.  If I may ask?

Thanks Rich, paint is Tamiya TS-30 from the can followed by a wash of black Tamiya detailer.

Very clean work, as always.

Interestingly, the engine as modeled by Fujimi is apparently missing some of the engine cooling tin, which makes the seams on the finned cylinders and heads visible. Those seams are not on the real engine parts, and can be corrected with careful filing...but of course probably won't be visible when the engine is installed.

Engine looks...  real!

The various tones of metal and washes gives it just the right look.

Thanks Pierre.  I'm a big fan of Tamiya products.

Beautiful looking 4 cam engine.

Thanks Trevor.  Drilling those tiny distributors was challenging.

Detail above and beyond that of mortal men. So very fine. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to final presentation.

Thanks Dan.  Hope I can pull off a decent paint job on the body.

Thanks Bill. I sanded the haves flat before gluing but its difficult to make the seam disappear. Thankfully the seam will be very hard to see on the completed model.

  • You don't get the stinger exhaust and I won't try and scratch build it
  • Not using the large end caps on the muffler
  • Replaced the outlet tubes for better flow and a more raucous exhaust note

The 356 America Roadsters were delivered without a glove box door.

I'm including this tweak to my GT.

Thanks Daniel.

Yes, this is the car. It's now back in the Los Angeles area and currently on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum.

  • Engine installed
  • Added leather window lifting straps - no window cranks for the lightweight Plexiglas side windows

Dash is complete:

  • Dash pad should be interior color but I chose to paint if flat back to reduce glare for competition
  • No clock to "add lightness"
  • I really like Fujimi kits but their decals leave a lot to be desired

  • Minus the wheels the chassis/interior/boot/engine bay is complete
  • Fuel tank should be black, I chose silver

All looks really sharp JC. I love the delicate shifter, you scratch built that right?

Thanks Pierre.  I replaced the plastic shaft of the kit shifter with with a piece of wire.

Here are the Porsche Rudge wheels I mentioned awhile back.  Cast by Historic Racing Miniatures.
