I had started the '83 car a couple years ago, and had it mostly done, but it needed a hood. this build started as a pile of parts from a garage sale several years ago, and had everything but the hood. After watching Ebay for a while with no luck, I finally just broke down and bought a new Salvinos JR kit just to get a Buick hood for it.   Painted and decaled the hood and completed the build.

Finished the '88 car a month ago.  I love the way it turned out.  The seat belts took forever, and were pretty frustrating to make.  This was the first time I plumbed the oil pump and oil cooler.  Powerslide decals for both.

Those crazy headers are something that Junior Johnson tried for a few months and scrapped them. Too bad they still show up in kits. I have donor kits I take the headers from, I really should make some from solder.

Yeah, it seems from the few underside pics I could find, that neither of these cars ran those headers.  If i build another with those, i may try to cut the middles out, or use some of the headers from the later style GM kits.

I never tried cutting them up. Some of the other kit headers interfere with the front chassis. I tried the truck headers on a Salvino Pontiac Lemans and they were a no go.

I haven't tried to cut them either.  I got the idea from this book I just picked up.  If I do another kit that has them, I'm going to give it a try.   they look like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH  as they are, so nothing to lose, right?

They both look great. What's the name of the gold paint on the 12? I've had this in the stash a lot longer than I care to admit. Maybe this will push me to start it.

I saw Allison at Flemington with a #22 DIRT modified. I met him in the pits after the race, he signed one of the Flemington purple bumper stickers for me, I should have it still somewhere.

Very nice! I had met Bobby Allison at a pdr show . My friend and I were talking to Smokey and around the corner came Bobby Allison. I was shocked and asked why he was at this little show? You’re a Superman! His reply was “this idiot talked me into comming” meaning Smokey Yunick . My friend just built a stroker 351 , for me when stroker motors were not even thought of. So him and Smokey were talking about it. Smokey invited my friend and I out to dinner. What stories! I learned a lot that night. They had sooo many stories about the cheating in the nascar series. It was funny and amazing. Smokey and Bill France were not the best of friends , so Smokey would do things just to make him mad. I can go on forever about that dinner. The thing I remember is Bill France robbed Bobby Allison of one race. He had 49 victories and would of had 50 but when the pony cars ran against the big cars, for one race, the Mustang Smokey made for Bobby won and Bill France did not want the small cars to win so he disqualified the race and the big cars never ran with the small ones after that. Great builds sir!!! Love those Bobby Allison cars!!!
