Slotto Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 The Moebius release of the '52 Hudson Hornet Convertible. I picked this open box kit up at an IPMS meeting a few months back. The previous owner had passed away and his wife donated all of his kits to the club. Since I'm the only car builder in the club, the president handed it over to me. I don't normally build '50's cars but I accepted it anyway. When I got it home and opened up the box. Some key pieces were missing like the engine and convertible boot. And EVERYTHING was half heartedly spray painted black. Knowing this was going to be a challenge, I pushed forward.I stripped the body and sanded away the mold seams. I sprayed the body with Duplicolor Charcoal Grey Metallic. It turns out to be a Chrysler color. Looking at the side panel I immediately thought red for the cavity and matching interior.Since there wasn't an engine, I rifled thru the bone yard and found a HEMI I had cast a few months back. I made the headers from solder and the collectors are aluminum tubing. The exhaust pipes is 12 gauge copper wire. The mufflers are plastic tubing to simulate glaspacks. The exhaust tips are wire ends I got from Amazon.I really like how the whole kit went together. The frame is a little bit warped but I dont think it shows too much. I'll bring it to the next meeting and see if anyone has the boot. Thanks for looking. 6
