I figured I should try doing a WIP on something.

So here's the AMT Wild Hoss Bronco I've been very slowly working on.

There won't be a lot of the original kit left when I'm done.

I'm still doing a lot of 3d printing of parts, and haven't completely decided what will make its way onto the final product.

So far though...

  • Ford 5.2L Predator V8 with tranmission
  • Ford 5.0L Coyote V8 with transmission
  • Fuel Militia wheels with a couple of choices of larger tires
  • New seats
  • New shocks
  • Roof rack with cargo basket
  • LED cube lights
  • LED offroad lights
  • front & rear bumpers with winch, tire mount, etc.
  • storage boxes, coolers, offroad recovery gear

Not sure on final colour, but I know the chrome will all be gone.

And I still need to figure out how I'm going to lift it.

And now, some pics...

Wow, this is gonna be great! Love all the 3d printed pieces. I’d love to have a printer…but I would likely spend all my time learning how to print and not building anything.?

Nice accessories!  Did you make those seats?

Seats are from a designer named BlackBoxSTL. I've printed as his wheels and accessories. Really nice stuff.

Very cool so far! Love that you opened up the grille. I thought about doing that with my Super Stones tow truck, but the last time I attempted it, the holes were pretty uneven.

Nice start! IIRC, back when those came out the way most people lifted them was with taller coil springs in the front and lift blocks under the rear leaf springs. Fireball has a kit for the Revell first gen Bronco, I will have to check to see if it would work on this MPC kit.

Cool project, and very nice printing. Should be a fun build.

In the 90s I used to wheel with a buddy that had one of these. A very mild 460 with three inches of lift and 35" tires, otherwise stock. It was very cumbersome on the muddy woods trails, and when it got stuck, it was like digging a block of lead out of the mud. Everything about it seemed crazy heavy for its size. It was a fun machine nonetheless.

Ditto. I feel the same way about resin casting, machining, and complex soldering, too. All skills I'd like to master, but at the rate things get built on my bench, I'm worried any skill that requires a significant learning curve will only serve to take all my time developing it rather than doing any building.

I did make the plunge and that's exactly the trap I fell into. For the last month I've been printing bunch of stuff that I don't even know if I'm gonna use or trying to figure things out by reprinting parts with different settings and I have spent very little time actually building something. After all, there are only so many hours in a day...

I recognized the seats and the accessories, but what files did you use for that Ford motor? It seems like a very, very well designed parts.
