Really enjoy watching this build come together. Your attention to detail is phenomenal. In the pictures of the SSDI article it appears as if he is running air bags on the rear axle, of course it could just be shadows. Might make for some hard wheels up launches.

Thanks Ricky, I try to make ‘‘em close. This was the first time I was disappointed in the Slixx decals the graphics were great, but the sponsors decals were a little off register and not opaque. I had two decal sheets and both were the same. I sourced the decals from the earlier Slixx contingency decal sheet.
The SSDI photo shows coil springs, regular shocks, and a 4 link, no air bags, I’m not sure they were available in 72?

6 DAYS TO ACME. I’m not in panic mode yet, but this build is really fighting me. I keep having to do things over, not twice but three and four four times. I’m on my third dashboard, it’s just OK and will have to do, the flocking for the carpet is rough, gladly it will be hard to see once the glass is installed. I sanded and polished the paint and knocked the hood with my Dremel.I’m starting on the motor, so far so good.  I still haven’t found employment here, with my luck I’ll get a job and have to start before I finish this one.

Wow, so shiny! Looks great Roger. You can do it! I’m just about there with mine , also. I’ll be here to cheer you on.By the way, where did you find the nuts for your fuel lines?

Thanks Rich, the fuel line nuts are from Detail Master, .022 ID compression fitting.

THE GOOD, THE BAD,  AND THE UGLY

Where do I start ? The Good, I made it to the ACME Southern Nationals Show. The Bad. After test fitting everything 100 times when I started the final assembly nothing fit, stuff broke multiple times, I ended up having to make a new rear axle assembly and ladder bars, I had to scrap my coil over shock system. In the end It ended up reflecting more of what the original car had. I messed up the Molotow finish on the rear wheels, stripped them in rubbing alcohol, the alcohol reacted to the resin and they deformed. I had no others and just had to resprayed them, they are rough looking compared to my first go round. My fender aprons only fit one side, I guess I didn’t take into consideration the oil tank, so they were left off. I’ve always struggled with fuel lines and I thought I could get them on this one but that just turned into a Super Glue  nightmare, I pulled them off in the end. I couldn’t get the braided oil lines to stay together, so they were left off. The coil was to mount to the right fender liner, but without the liner no place to mount the coil, I didn’t get to make rear shocks, or any Rack and pinion steering parts. I had to rework the headers, as the motor won’t sit straight, the oil pan popped off while trying to get it in the way it fit during the trial fit. I’m ashamed to admit I just glued the oil pan on straight and left the motor crooked. I forgot to add the hood pins, and on and on!

The Ugly, I’ve never been so frustrated with a build, I came close to gluing the hood shut and making it a curbside. My hopes were to do my most detailed build and perhaps get a top ten award. After a year working on this I pushed to complete this and I’m disappointed in myself in getting caught up with taking something new to this show and completing the car as I did. It’s a three footer, looks great from three feet away. I would almost have to start over to correct all that dislike, I think I’ll just put it in the display case as a reminder to take my time don’t rush and keep my pride in check.

Well Roger, I hate to hear that but it does look nice.  I know exactly what you mean.  That seems to happen to me on every build so I'm usef to it.

Thanks Bob, I’m probably a little over it. I’m noticing a pattern where I dislike most of my builds in the end, I probably spend way too much time on them.

Sorry to hear of all the mishaps Roger. I will say, the car looks great on that display pictured.

Thanks Rich, it looks good, just fell short of my expectations. I’ll probably build a couple out of the box before I tackle another major project.
