Superbird McMonte Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 I just bought this car a couple days ago. It’s on its way up from the Carolinas. So I had to start building a model of her! Started life as a 1970 roadrunner big block with automatic transmission. Bench seat red interior. The conversion was done two owners ago. The interior was converted to black. All of the body modifications are done with Janak fiberglass. The only thing that has not been changed is the rear window. The owner that started the conversion passed away. The next owner picked off a few things on the list of things that have not been done yet. But other obligations gotten away, and the car went up for sale, and I bought it from him. I started my replica with a Jo-han Superbird. I took the back window out of a derelict GTX promo. My next modification will be to the front wheel openings. I plan on sectioning in the openings from the 70 Dodge Coronet. 4
Maindrian Pace Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Very nice, the car looks great in steel top form and all one color. The mandatory vinyl roof always made these cars look two tone to me, vinyl should have been an option, if anything. Nice job on the rear window conversion.

Vinyl roof could not be an option for these cars. The vinyl covered up the rear window plug and unfinished body work on these cars. I500 or so of these cars had to be built in a hurry to beat the NASCAR rules so the car could be legal for use in NASCAR at the beginning of the 70 season.
Maindrian Pace Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 I know that, which is why I said that the *mandatory* vinyl roof should have been an option, or unavailable - they should have finished the plug and painted the roof, as they did on the Daytona.

The Daytona used the Charger 500 body. They had time to do those and only had to build 500 of them. The rules changed after that car was built. They did not have time to build the required cars before the season started. They barely had enough race car bodies too. Pic just for you. lol I bet not everyone gets that. Rattlecan Dan Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 I'm sure you'll do it justice, with your build. It's a great looking car. Congrats!
