You are a better man than I.

I will use the the Italeri pretty much as is. i am a big fan of K.I.S.S. unless it's REALLY offensive to my eyes.....

Fabulous modifications, Pierre - its shape is going to look like a 1960 SWB - the amt/ESCI grille is the better choice for 1931GT (comes very close). This is going to be an excellent model!

Thanks Helmut. I agree, the ESCI/AMT grille should be a better starting point but will still need some work. Oh well, add that to the growing list...

That's one deep rabbit hole, lotsa twists and turns. It's amazing how many things you can find to correct once you embark on a project like this, but she's looking more like what she's s'posed to look like with every update.  :D

Definitely more than I expected, but getting closer. Looking forward to a first coat of primer which should help me better see if the transformation has been worth the effort.

Let me make your day...while comparing your work to my body shell here last night, I noticed the rear fender kickup starts on the door on this model, but starts at the shut-line on the real ones and the Italeri version.

It makes quite a noticeable difference in the top curve of the rear quarter panel if you correct it.  :(

You're doing brilliant work, and I hope when it's completed you'll get someone to turn your automotive sculpture into the master for the ultimate correction set!! My only comment, and it may be the same thing as Bill's @Ace-Garageguy is that the rear edge of the door shutline and the front edge of the wheel well cut out are straight and parallel for a decent amount of their length....

best,

M.

If you need a break from your work here, Pierre: enjoy the video - lean back and crank up the volume:

2 French racing drivers on twisty country roads in the south of France driving  a 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB (2209GT) and a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO (3387GT), the 2nd ever built:

Always so cool to see AND HEAR these 2 beauties driven the way they were designed to.

Thanks Ace, something else I missed. It explains why my window opening trim rests at an angle coming to the back end of the door. Fixing it would require to re-do the trim pieces. Not sure if I want to tackle this but I will try to smooth out the transition to make it less visible.

Matt, thanks for pointing that out, I think I can reduce that effect although the amount of material left is rather thin.

and here is a bunch of 250 SWBs racing last year at Goodwood together with a LM, a few GTOs, the SWB Breadvan, a 250 TdF, a GT/L and a 275 GTB:

you can see 1960 and '61 versions with different details. Apart from added roll-bars, additonal rearview mirrors and slightly wider wheels - some have side exhaustpipes - they give a good idea about hwo was GT racing back in the day.

You always amaze me with your painstaking attention to the subtle differences in contours and to the smallest details, Pierre. Finally, when all is said and done, it will look like you have turned a 1961 Italeri body into an earlier  1960 version to anyone not following this thread. I will keep this for reference and try to repeat some of the techniques you show here in my future builds: the grille work - outstanding.

Oh - I have to hurry up and go to work - I was just eagerly awaiting your next step on this WIP, so I had to look it up early in the morning  :-)

Wow, Pierre. That grille looks just like the one you are trying to duplicate. When this is finished no one will think this is an amt kit. It's going to look too good.

This would have not been possible without constant side by side verification to your Italeri body.  This was more work than anticipated and the product of stubbornness that shows the ESCI body can be salvaged if no Italeri kit is available. Wait! damn... I do have an Italeri kit! ?

Thanks, but it will need a lot of primer & sanding to make all these surfaces presentable.

Body has been primed. A few areas need some finessing but I am happy with the result. I could not resist doing a little mock up with the after market wheels & tires planned for this project.
