My first car was a 1970 MGB. I spent more time under it than in it. It suffered from electrical woes that I could never solve. I replaced a lot of the sheet metal as the mid-west winters had taken their toll. Despite all of the shortcomings I was a bit teary eyed when it was driven out of my parents driveway by its new owner. So here is my model tribute to my first car...

The model is based on the Aoshima kit which really has excellent detail. The high points of this kit are the beautiful chrome wire wheels, photo etched details and a well proportioned accurate body. The downside is the lack of engine and that the body sits high in the rear.

I tried using Tamiya enamel on the body for the first time and it went over the Modellers white primer nicely. I hid it under a dust free cover for a few days knowing enamel dries slowly and I ended up with a shiny finish and didn't need to clear coat. Tamiya polish and some Meguires wax to finish it off.

Thank you!

What I love about this site is that they have good people willing to share knowledge about the hobby...so last night while surfing around, I though my pictures really are not good and don't do the model justice. I went into the chat room Tips, Tricks and Tutorials giving tips on how to take good pictures and voila! Better shots. Hopefully I can improve this aspect of my modelling in the future too.

Great looking MGB. Always fun to build something from the past. A friend of mine also had an MGB from the '60's. He spent a lot of time working on keeping it running, but he always had a grin on his face when driving it. I guess that was part of the charm that these cars had.
