I will be starting this one next. I built it a couple of years ago and I liked how it came out. That is Light Blue Metallic that I painted it with previously. I have two bottles of paint from MCW that I am thinking about using; either Evening Orchid Metallic (also known as Iris Mist) or Willow Green Metallic. Both are 1965 Chevy colors. Evening Orchid was also a color for the 1965 Pontiac which I have used before. So I won't be painting tomorrow because its going to be windy and cold but maybe by Monday the weather will be better. I'll be getting the body ready tomorrow and I think I will do this one in the Foose style with the wheels and engine suggested in the instructions. I am partial to the Evening Orchid but what do you think? Thanks for looking!

I learned to drive on a sixty five...?...I like the blue but it's up to you...I'm a poet but I didn't know it ?. I'm a big fan of the '65, John. I have the convertible half built, waiting for paint which will be MCW Tahitian Turquois (emulating that 1:1 Impala ragtop of my early driving days,) and downgrading to 283 power. Does the Foose version support the later 396 or the elderly 409? The Iris Mist is pretty sweet. It's kinda feminine.  What would Foose do?

There were a lot of great looking colors that GM used on their cars from this era. The Iris Mist/Evening Orchid is a personal favorite of my own, but there are so many to choose from. You can always stray into a custom color that isn't an OEM as well.

The blue one is sweet... I think it will look awesome with either of those colors, but that Evening Orchid would be slick. Can't wait to see what you do with it. The '65 is one of my favorite Impalas, so I will definitely be following along.

I built this one a couple years back with a candy type red paint job. Though it came out ok, I want to try my hands at it again. Hopefully it'll come out the way I see it in my mind this time.

Yep, aside from my favorite Impala ('61 Bubbletop) the '65  like Jeremy is my favorite also.

Any color will look great so pick it out and go for it John☺️

Thanks, all! I appreciate your suggestions! Jim, the box or instructions don't indicate what engine it is but the decals indicate that it is a 409. Looks more like a 396 to me because it doesn't have those big valve covers.  Both colors are nice pastels, but I think I am going with the Evening Orchid. But the next build will have the Willow Green.

Yeah the engine in this kit is the 396.

From what I remember reading the '65 convertible has a 409.

Thanks, everyone for your comments!

I airbrushed the Evening Orchid today and was disappointed. After 3 sessions of applications, about 3/4th of an ounce which is a lot of paint for an airbrush,  all I got was silver. Obviously, not mixed right. I've got a message into MCW to see if they will send another bottle. Or I could just paint over it with the Willow Green. I'll have to think about it. ?

Same paint, same airbrush, different ownership of MCW

Well, I corresponded with MCW and he says his color is correct, I beg to differ so I will not be buying any more paint from MCW. I repainted this one with Willow Green Metallic and it came out great with 1/2 oz. of paint. A nice pastel green metallic. So Carl, you got your preference! I like it too it is just a shame that the Evening Orchid didn't work out. I'll add a coat of clear and this one will be done with paint.  ?

Hey that green looks awesome. Sometimes things don't workout so other things do...

Sucks on the other color though. I've never used their paint before.

Hi John, I was slightly partial to the evening orchid colour, but the green also looks fantastic. Bummer that you had to re paint tho.

Nice build you got going John. Sometimes when things don't work out, You end up in a better place. And I think thats what happened to your '65. That Willow Green Metallic looks perfect on it. Ya, It is a bummer about the Evening Orchid color not being correct, But I think your '65 came out ahead.

I use MCW paints and have not experienced a problem like you did. I'v had paint that seemed like it was very thin after mixing and was having a problem covering. I was laying alot of paint down and the color was just not there. Had to back off on the ratio of the thinner compared to what I was always normally using with MCW enamal paints. Then the color came around. The last paint I sprayed had some small particals in it and had to be strained. Can you say Alot of sanding! I'v had excellent results with this paint, except for every now and then. It happen's.

Thanks, All! I appreciate your comments! Paul, I use the MCW lacquer paint and it doesn't have to be thinned, normally, and I didn't thin the Evening Orchid. I guess I wouldn't be so upset if MCW would have said sorry for the mistake and sent me a new bottle of paint. But instead, he insisted that his paint was correct and that the Pontiac that I painted with the same MCW paint under the old owner had too much color in it. Further, he is not taking any new resin orders because he is 3-4 month in backlog. Sounds like to me he is in over his head and doesn't need any customers. So I will oblige!

No progress today as I have been working on a 68 Chevelle in order to get it painted before it rains and use up the last of my MCW paint.

I got something done on this build today. I finished the foil on the body. I have taken photos without the light directly on it or you wouldn't be able to see the foil due to the color of the paint. I also show one with the light on it. But i always think that if its hard to see the foil its done well but that might be a little self serving. Thanks for looking! ?

Foiling looks terrific,  John. That's what I've been doing all day on a light gray body.  I know  exactly what you're talking about. It's hard to photograph when there's very little contrast.  But I can see it fine and, when zoomed in, I can tell it's top shelf.  I'm a pretty decent foiler myself, I actually enjoy it.  Not everyone does. It's painting I hate. ?.  BTW, that paint looks super slick too.
