Has it ever been determined what happened to the tooling for the AMT annual 1965 Coronet kit or promo?  They've always been tough to find.  The body shape is better than any of the more modern attempts.  The original would be a grand selection for a cloned kit.

The engine and chassis from the MPC Coronet got recycled into their '66-'67 Charger.  The body tooling probably got scrapped, had Ertl found it they'd probably have utilized it at some point, as they did with the '70 body.

Hopefully we will see '66 Satellite and '66 Coronet 500 kits after this?

Sorry, but no plans just yet.  Still many other things to get done first!

I seem to recall when these were announced we were told that the sedan would be Hemi-powered (A-990).  I don't remember hearing that there would be 2 versions of the sedan, so that's a pleasant surpise.

Should we assume the "standard" sedan kit (blue car box art) is wedge-powered (Similar to the Belvedere sedan)?  That would be a big plus in my book.  Would love to know all the differnces between the two sedan versions.

Yes, the blue Coronet will have the wedge engine, just like the Belvedere.

Primary differences between the two are the tires, grille options, and engine/hood set up.  Only one of them will make you hum a Jan & Dean song.

That Jan & Dean song has been in loop mode in my brain since I first saw the box art pics in the announcement last Saturday evening. I'll be in for at least 3 of the AWB car and 3 of the Super Stock 990s (and 1 will DEFINITELY be RED!...)  It's the little old lady from Pasadena....

Like maybe a four-door police car? Just sayin'...

Was listening to XM the other day and what was on..."she's the terror of Colorado Boulevard!"

In my mind's eye, I'd always seen the LOLFP as a '64 Polara, but this works just fine, too. Really looking forward to these, Moby is killing it with the Mopars.

Question to the other kids: How well would these roof swap with the Satellite sport hardtop to get a really good '65 Coronet HT for all manner of builds? Or is it in the queue for later?  The original 'feels' the best; the PL went wide of the mark but some will debate.  A slam dunk replacement for the painfully expensive originals would be great.

Would not be hard to do from our kit.  Move the B-Pilar and rescribe the door lines.  I've seen a couple of good builds people have done with the Belvedere kit already doing just that.

Here's a quickie markup I did so we could keep all the types straight.  The AWB doesn't show up on this however..... (it's originally from a dealer brochure).

Yea, we'd really like to do a Station Wagon at some point, but it ain't going to be the Coronet.  Ain't going to be MY choice either...... Lakewood

Other options to share some existing tooling:

* 65 Comet

* 65 Belvedere

I know drag racing versions of a particular kit really get people interested so I found a couple :)

A friend in high school had a really nice 63 Lakewood. Very cool and quirky car, drove like nothing I had ever driven before.

That Comet wagon would have to be a 90% new kit, as the wagons were pretty much Falcon wagons with Comet front sheet metal.  Comet wagons share the Falcon wheelbase, shorter than that of the Comet and Cyclone hardtops and sedans...

And if you want the full wheel covers, here you go:

Yes, those are the original AMT/MPC '65 Coronet wheelcovers that somehow survived to end up on this trailer.

And I have one of those kits sitting in my stash!

I never knew what those hubcaps were from.

Thanks, Chris!

We're getting really close to getting these out the door.  All should be showing up at the same time.  The AWB is a Model King release.

Thanks,

Erik
