THarrison351 Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 Another one started thirty some odd years ago. Next to last picture is how it was in the box save a tire inconveniently burning the windshield glass. AMT converted the Charger 500 into this car which ironically had once been a Charger Daytona before becoming the DOH kit, hence the incorrect rear window for so many early issues. This old mold has been around. I stole some parts from the Revell Daytona that weren't needed for the race version. I used this kit's decals...regretfully. I really had no options. The Revell decals were terribly brittle. The color is Testors dark red over black primer. I used Fireball resin wheels and hubcaps. I also purchased a recent issue "Country" Charger for window glass and a better bumper. The last picture was the filler I used way back when. Super glue and baking soda. A lot of my old models have had this filler fail. I scrubbed it with Wesleys and a toothbrush, then coated it in spot filler. I also created a front spoiler from sheet plastic. I copied the Revell piece. Thanks for looking! 8
michelle Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 (edited) Awesome job Round 2 needs to redo this kit like they did with the 71 demon and 68 coronet rt kits to fix the inaccuracy and fitment issues and maybe even use it to bring the charger 500 back but better also Edited May 19, 2024 by michelle
Street Rod Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Great job! You made a lot of improvements to an otherwise mediocre kit.
XYHARRY Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 I attempted this kit way back when I was a teenager and could not get that nose panel to fit. Yours looks amazing and that colour looks awesome. Really well done Tim. Cheers, David. ??
espo Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Beautiful looking paint color and finish. Like the engine and chassis detailing.
ea0863 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Fantastic job Tim! I think there is a law of physics that says at least one tire will always get sucked onto the windshield of any unbuilt kit
karbuildr Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Very well done, beautiful dark red color, excellent results on a difficult kit, and that incredible shine looks superb.
Musclecarbuilder Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Wow amazing job, I love the color and the wheels!

Well, the body tool likely still exists, but not sure about the grill and hood for the Charger 500 seeing how the two bodies are exactly the same including the 500 emblem on the rear panel. It was last released in 2011. Looks like the 500 grill and hood were in the same locations on the tool as the regular Charger that was repopped as the DOH and County Charger. I agree about the tooling for the Daytona being inaccurate and fiddly. Lots of sanding, plastic card, and filler in mine. On 5/19/2024 at 7:31 PM, Street Rod said: Great job! Several years ago I went through all my open kits(most are) and isolated the tires from everything. Unfortunately, several had suffered tire burns. I was not aware for a long time that the tires were still a problem until I opened up all these kits I had stored for years. Such a disappointment.
