Hello all,

Was there ever a kit of the Ford Bronco II (the "baby" Bronco of the 80's) in kit form?   Just wondering; would like to possibly build my brother-in-law's first car.   Thanks in advance.

Even a Ranger would work as your base, but I haven't seen either the '83-88 or the '89-92 facelift in any kit form.

Johnny Lightning recently put out a 1:64 diecast of the early model as a RCSB, I don't think there have been any larger scale diecasts.

A kit would be neat..I have small Matchbox and Majorette dieceast ones.  My first SUV was an '88 Bronco II XLT 4x4 in gold and brown two-tone.  V6, 5spd manual...neat little truck, drove it from '94-00 before I switched to Jeep Grand Cherokees.

There is a 1:10 scale Bronco II Body kit available online to 3-D print. I believe its around $15,

These could work, the hardest part will be trying to duplicate the roll into the top rear side windows the Bronco II has, the explorer body used flat glass windows.

if you check packaging for electronics you should find something to work for the glass. ask in a phone repair shop and they will have some great packaging. samsung screens and parts in particular come in crystal clear smooth packaging with all the corners rounded that wold work perfect for this glass.

Since the link I posted went away, here's a picture of what I was thinking as a start. The teal one is a vintage Maisto release of an early 90s Explorer which might work. I had one at one time which I converted to a crude version of a Jurassic Park Explorer. Wish I still had it.  The other one is the later release.

The teal one could be a starting point for an '89-90 Bronco II...though the II had a much shorter wheelbase and was about 2 feet shorter in 1:1...

Lindberg made a nice 1/20th 2dr Explorer Sport of that generation ('91-94 ish), same front clip and some interior parts as the '89-90 Bronco II, but the 2dr Explorer was about a foot longer than the Bronco II in 1:1.

At one time, I had a 1:1 '88 Bronco II XLT, my brother had an '89 Bronco II XLT, a '97 Ranger and later an '08 Ranger and '97 Explorer 5dr XLT,  my Dad had a '94 Ranger, my Mom a '96 Explorer Sport 2dr and my sister a '99 Explorer Eddie Bauer 5dr...

On Explorers, it seems like the only people that made an Explorer in a scale that wasn't weird (I.E. 1/20) were AMT.  They gave us not one but two second gen Explorers which may or may not be useful to the original poster's needs.
1996 Ford Explorer (1/25) (fs)

1996 Ford Explorer Limited Snap Kit (1/25) (fs)
Also, how did AMT justify having two toolings for a frankly boring SUV in their line-up?

I think there was a promo version, which is why they made the snap kit.   Explorer was the top selling SUV at the time, so it made sense to make kits.  AMT also made Blazers at the same time.  Alas, the AMT kits were the facelifted versions, which wouldn’t be useful for doing a Bronco II.

As a youngster in the 90s I bought a lot kits at Toys R Us on clearance. AMT was doing a lot of kits with promo versions on the side which they then also sold as snap kits and I got a lot of both. I used to have the Dodge Stealth as a promo at one time and I still have the regular kit version to be built someday. I'd love to see them return to offering some simplified kits as well as the regular ones as I'm practically ancient now and not so interested in doing full detail.
