I have a set of other tires from Jay's and they are the same with as the Halibrands I was looking at. They are just to wide. To modify the floor pan to get the wheels & tires to look right would take a ton of work and wouldn't look right looking in the trunk. I'll think I'll just keep what I have. They will still look pretty decent. I think the wheels and tires will look good and the chrome dulled a bit. If it is a pure drag car should look fine.

Definitely not no door trunk or front steering might as well been a snap kit the 63 kit remains the supreme 41 Willys kit !! I always had fun building the kit !! never had problems with the kit 1

Most period shots of the real car show wheels that are pretty obviously polished aluminum or magnesium, not chrome, so either dulling that shine or stripping them and going Alclad or Testors buffing metalizer should give you the right look. I realize you're not building the SWC car as-was, but those wheels/tires just look so right on it... 2

I saw someone paint a set of wheels with the Tamiya flat aluminum and they looked pretty good. I may experiment with that. 1

dragcarz Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 I thought I’d share my build for a little inspiration Bob. It can be built, I built this in 1989, my first time using Testors Metalizer on the wheels, they have dulled down with age, and the front axle has started to sag, I’m sure you noticed how thin it is. I’m looking forward to seeing yours, you always make them look great! 3

Zippi Posted July 10, 2024 Author Posted July 10, 2024 This morning I thought I'd take a look at any fitment issues there may be. The windshield looks like it fits nice and flat but there is no pocket for it to set in. The doors, deck lid, and floor pan seem to fit pretty good. So far things look good. 1
Rattlecan Dan Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Oh Yeah, it's on! You've already got the body looking smooth as silk. Great choice of those wheels (once you do your thing dulling them down). Good looking mill, and all that's missing is the Zippi touch in bringing it all together. The color choice is always the head scratcher, unless you've already got something in mind. I know I'll be watching.

Well...I've been working on the body just below the windshield and just couldn't get it like I wanted to I smoothed it out. 2
Zippi Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 More clean-up today. I did a trail fit (There will be many, many trail fits) of the doors with the door panel in place and looking from the front without the hood on the hinge area looks pretty bad. With the hood on it covers all the ugly. If you have built this kit, did you do anything with this area? The two piece front wheels where way to wide so a lot of sanding had to take place to get the front and rear pieces to fit close to the tires. Also, I got the front and rear suspension cleaned up. 2
Tony Coomer Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 The Willy’s is taken shape, the doors fitment looks great. I have this kit in my eBay list, but I was weary of the door hinges looking to scale but it looks great…

I think I may sand the door hinges down just a little. Better grab that one that's in your ebay list.
Zippi Posted July 12, 2024 Author Posted July 12, 2024 (edited) I got the wheels sanded down and cleaned up. I primed the wheels with Tamiya White surface primer then shot the Tamiya XF-16 Flat Aluminum over that. I don't like what I'm seeing. Looks a little grainy and I don't like the color. I'm gong to hit it with a Matte Clear and see if that will help out. If not, I strip the paint and start over. Edited July 12, 2024 by Zippi 2
Zippi Posted July 12, 2024 Author Posted July 12, 2024 I thought before I strip the paint I'd shoot them with some Tamiya Silver Leaf. I think I like how they look now so I'm good to go on the wheels & tires. 2

Zippi Posted July 13, 2024 Author Posted July 13, 2024 Well...I mounted the tires on the wheels and I'm just not sure on the color of the wheels. I'm having one heck of a time getting a color that I like. 2
