I have high expectations for the decal sheet, hopefully they keep the 80s car reissues coming, would be great to see the Fiero, and the Beretta

I would love to build one of these. The Shelby Charger is not a bad kit overall. I almost bought a Plymouth Laser built-up at a recent show, but put it back.

A couple years ago they updated the '77-'78 Dodge Monaco and now are bringing this one back, which means both cars from the series Hunter. Staring Fred Dryer and Stepfanie Kramer are again available.

Did someone say HUNTER?

HPI Guy built his Joker Monaco just like that, way back in 2018:

Somebody, please explain to me, why anybody born this century would ever have the desire to build this kit?

Same reason anyone would want to build any other model kit.

Just because you don't like the car doesn't mean no one else likes it either. ?

Or the previous century for that matter.

You are obviously missing the point. I never said I don’t like the car. And was definitely not born this century. But I would love to build a model with my kids and looking at what manufacturers are peddling, I can understand why my 15 year old would rather build Speed Champions Legos and Bandai Star Wars or Transformers figures.

Yea, no clue what you mean.

You asked why would someone want to build that kit.  My answer was that it would be the same reason someone would want to build any other kit, regardless of our likes or dislikes.

I would never want to build a new Bronco kit or that Barris rickshaw thingy but I wouldn't ask why someone else would want to.

Seemed to me you were dismissing those who would want to build the kit. If I misunderstood, I apologies.

I specifically said born this century, meaning no older than 24.
I didn’t know I would have to spell it out, but here it is:

There goes another outdated mediocre kit of an old mediocre car that would be of zero interest to younger demographic and therefore do nothing to attract fresh blood to the hobby.

Could be wrong but I think since the late '70s, model kit manufacturers try to get get kids into model kit building again, with mixed results.

Think it's safe to say that this hobby in general is a 40+ pastime.

But anyway, just what I think.

Cheers

Me personally, I grew up with all these cars, so any kit I can get my hands on of 70s and 80s stuff always makes me smile.

While young kids might not have much interest in old cars, per se, they certainly are more open to 'em when there's some guidance involved.

I'm teaching my dude all about the American classics, and he's teaching me all about the modern Japanese and Euro stuff.

So, whether building a Tamiya Skyline R34 Z-Tune, or an MPC 78 Dodge Monaco, together, young and old are unstoppable.

You may very well be right. But it was 30+ about 25 years ago. And it is more like 50+ now if not 60+. I am 48 and when I go to a show I am definitely at the lower end of the average age. Which basically means that the age of the average car modeler is the same as the age of the subject matter. And in my personal opinion that is a big issue. Because if it is not addressed, the hobby will die with us.

Well how long is it now since the Belgian manufacturer Belkits released their first WRC kit?

I think the key here is, that certain manufacturers still tread this hobby as toys and are still trying to get kids involved with lots of investment but rarely with success, while others do not and take an all different aproach offering nice qualiy kits to adults who have interest in building models of subject matter they prefer and that's where the money is.

Another example look at how many all new military kits are being released, don't think kids are building these either, heaven forbid if their parrents would find out ?

I would not disagree.  My son and I have owned 2002-2004 Mustangs (Mach1, Cobra, GT and Saleens) and are there any models of them?  Not a one - just 1/18 diecasts.  Even 2005-2024 Mustangs kits are few and far between with a few snap or easy build ones.  I suppose there are some newer Camaro, Vette, Challenger, Charger kits etc but with 3D printing perhaps some will be available but not from larger companies.  Many of the older builder/collectors have so many kits that if kits were pulled from the shelves and none sold for the next five years not many would run out wishing they had something to build.  Who knows how many hundreds of thousands of kits are listed on auction sites but as to whether a 40 year old wants to see 80s and 90s kits “reissued” instead of perhaps something you might actually see on the road these days is a good point.  Obviously I’m a Ford person but as an example  where’s the 2021 Mach1 or the new Dark Horse kits or the GTD?  That’s just a few off the top of my head which I would think would appeal to either someone that owns a real one or the younger generation that might wish to own the real thing one day an could build a miniature one for now.  I go to a lot of cars shows and when someone starts up a GT40, 2005 Ford GT or 2018 Ford GT people of all ages seem to be drawn to them.  I guess my point is some cars are timeless and as the boomers get into their 70’s and 80’s perhaps the old kit supply will suddenly expand and prices will drop and that might entice some younger generations that like old cars to get involved in the hobby.  If I was in my early twenties I would probably build and “invest” in new Lego sets as they seem to increase in value a lot more than that 50-60 year old tooling reissued kit that’s on the shelf at the big box store that is not up to todays standards and will not go up in value as they always seen to be available.  Many say build what you like but with cars these days lacking uniqueness and it seems like 80% of the newer vehicles on the road are white, black gray or silver and interiors having even less choices I can understand the lack of enthusiasm as fewer all new kits are being made.

They don't care about the younger demographic when they re-release all those ancient kits I don't want. This kit and others like it are the kits I didn't get as a youth but will be buying now, now that I actually have money. They're finally moving ahead a few years releasing stuff that was out when I was a kid. I'll take it. I'll take some Fieros. I'll take the Escort or EXP or whatever it was called. I'll take some Rangers, the small one. I wouldn't mind the longbed F150 but we do have both shortbeds. I'm really glad the OBS Chevys are available again.

And not Round2, but I'll even take the Revell Citation.

You know that's round2's main drag. Old kits for old builders.

It's still just you thinking because your kids don't want it, someone else's kids wouldn't. The kit is lame, the car is lame. So what. Not everyone wants to build a sportscar.

So, I'll assume that neither you nor they have any interest in this newly tooled kit, eh, Mike?

As a 60 year old guy i would personally like to see something new and updated, a Hellcat Challenger or Demon Challenger that would be epic. Darkhorse stang etc. We do have the new vettes so i can imagine they are seeing how that sells.
