Am attempting to add fender flares (wide body) to a sports car. No idea what tire and wheel sizes to use. I'm ok with 3d or resin sets. Anybody can help ? Thanks

it depends what style you want to end up with. do you want a modern liberty walk type build or a classic race car type. aoshima do staggered sets in plastic, but 3d gives you more options, and more still if you have access to a printer as you can do them near any size and width. theres plenty modern options on ebay or stores like hiroboy, and for a more varied and race selection theres spot model. for muscle cars theres iceman collections or texas3d off the top of my head but a look through the aftermarket section on here will give you more places

Hi Ralph, and welcome to the forum. There are many 3d printed options (Texas 3d, iceman collections, jays resin to name a few), have a look at Scale Productions, Michael makes beautiful wheel/tire sets. I assume you would be looking for larger diameter, 20”-22” ?

Cheers, Steve

This is the first wide body I have ever done. I can fit a 28-29mm dia tire. But I have not glued the flares on so I can still adjust some tht is why I am looking for tires first. Don't want the wheels that stick out past the tire, not my style.

you could try some sleeves over the stock wheels to make them deep dish which would give you a bigger wheel  and if you use sleeves from a 3 piece wheelset you'll get tyres to fit with the set. some of the 3d places have options for the tyres too.

I don't have any recommendations to add, just wanted to say that this project looks very cool....... Should be awesome when done! There was a rendering floating around the internet some time back very similar to your mock-up.

This is the look I am looking for but totally lost on what wheels and tires size to use to bring it down to the ground.

those are hre wheels in probably 19 or 20 inch diameter. they are available as 3d files and i think the files by blackbox have tyre options. if you are using the tamiya kit for your base the sizes should work but if your using the amt kit you might need an inch or 2 smaller.

Somewhere on the board here, I think maybe in general automotive, there is a thread on “outlaw Mercedes” you may find more inspiration there. Love the inspiration that you have for your build. Most of the 3d printers, and sites like scale production, have an outside diameter measurement. These are generally shown in millimeters, in 1/25 scale, 1mm equals 1”. Hope that helps a little.

Yep… that’s the one, Thank you Russell !!

Coincidence here is that I first had found this current eBay old sawsall-shortened build of a gullwing. That one is a bit too much of a slice, and since I knew of "89AKurt"'s couple of contributed photos to that Mercedes outlaw thread along with his widebody mod of a Mercedes 190, I was thinking I should find that thread so that I could use the photo link leads in it to locate a "Cobra-ized" side view I could virtually shorten up a bunch. My photo alteration result is below, it looks feasible, but would represent quite a bit of body work on top of doing justice to fender flares which keep the basic appearance of the original Mercedes fender spear things.

However, I need another complicated model project like I need another hole in my head ……?
